Problems with DHCP and one specific network, only on my PC.

    Hi all,

I've got a really weird problem and I can't figure out what is causing it.
At my home I have powerline wi-fi hotspots made by TP-Link. They work fine except on my laptop. Whenever I connect it says "Connected, no Internet", even though my phone is able to access the internet.
A solution I found was disabling DHCP and entering a static IP. This does allow me to connect but the next time I connect to the same network I need a different IP for the connection to work again.
When connecting to these powerline boxes via Ethernet they work perfectly, but they're too far away so I need to connect via Wi-Fi.

Can anyone help me out in diagnosing this problem?
    Thank you so much.

    :)

  2. Wierd networking problem...

    No, the router.

As long as DHCP is enabled on the router, the rest of your IP addresses should work fine as being dynamic.

After making sure that there aren't any firewall settings causing a problem, the first thing to try would be to check that the appropriate Windows services are enabled.

Type services.msc from a run command and check that the following are set to automatic and running (if they are automatic and not running there could be a problem):
    • Computer Browser (this is the only one that may be automatic but not necessarily running)
    • DHCP Client
    • DNS Client
    • Network Connections (this should be ok if set to manual, so leave it be if it is)
    • Network Location Awareness (same as above, if it's manual, leave it manual)
    • Server
    • Workstation
If they are all ok, the next thing to try would be re-installing your network card driver, and making sure you have the latest one installed.

If that doesn't work, you should probably check that the cable running to that computer isn't damaged - that could give an explanation for the slow connection to it as well.

Finally, if everything else is ok, you may be able to solve the problem by setting a static IP on that computer. If that doesn't work I thing you might have to get a new network card.

    Network Reporting/Listing Problem

I have three PCs in a Workgroup network. All are connected to the router via Ethernet. All are running Windows 10 Pro 64bit with the latest updates. All connect to the Internet with no problems. Each one connects to the other two for file sharing.

I'm not having a network connection problem but I am having what I would call a reporting or listing problem. Specifically, in File Explorer, PC#3 does not show up under Network. PC#1 and PC#2 show up in File Explorer on all three PCs but PC#3 does not show up on any of the PCs. Again, all three PCs ARE connecting with each other but PC#3 is just not showing up on the network list.

If I manually type \\PC3\ in the Windows Explorer address bar, it instantly shows up under Network. If I close Windows Explorer and open it again later I have to manually type \\PC3\ again to get it to show.

So, it's not a connection problem. PC#3 is connected to the other two. It's just not automatically showing up under Network in Windows Explorer.

    I don't think it's a hardware or driver problem because there's no connection problem. There's just a reporting/listing problem.

    Any clues or suggestions appreciated!

Problems with DHCP and one specific network, only on my PC.

Network problem after router change. Help.

Ok, I just looked up steps for the 120.
Disconnect it from your existing network, and assign it an IP outside of the the 54g's DHCP pool. (or reserve it's IP address using the 120's(sorry earlier I typod 150) MAC).
Disable the DHCP server in the 120N - this will cause it just to act as an access point.
Remember to set your gateway in the 120N as your network IP for the 54g.

Afterthought: If the 120N has a wireless network isolation option, make sure it is disabled or unchecked!
