  1. Problems with NTBackup on Windows 10 Pro

I've had various problems with the hitherto reliable NT Backup utility under Windows 10 Pro.

    Problem 1 SOLVED:

    =============

Some months back it failed to start, complaining with the error message:

"The procedure entry point SetCatalogState could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files x86\Windows NT\NTBackup\ntbackup.exe".

I finally localised this to NT Backup not correctly finding the PATH to the "query.dll" even though the path variable was correctly set.

Making a copy of "query.dll" which must contain "SetCatalogState" into the SAME folder as "ntbackup.exe" solved this problem.

    Problem 2 NOT SOLVED:

    ================

NT Backup starts, but some weeks ago I noticed that:

    - if the backup .bkf file is not listed in the list of available backups and one does a "manual" search for the required backup file,

EVEN AFTER THE SEARCH, the file is still not shown in the list of available backups, making it impossibel to retrieve the required lost file.

Today things started working again correctly.

Has anyone else had this problem?

    :)

NTBackup stopped working on Windows 10 Pro

    Hi,

I have been running the ntBackup utility on a Windows 10 Pro box daily for over a year. Yesterday I checked on the status of my backups and found the folder with the backup utility (C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows NT\NTBackup) had disappeared. I restored
the folder but now I receive an Entry Point Not Found error saying "The procedure entry point SetCatalogState could not be located in the dynamic link library C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows NT\NTBackup\ntbackup.exe"

Coincidentally (or maybe not) the backup logs indicate the backups stopped working on the same day (Dec 8, 2019) as the following three MS updates were installed:

    - Security Update for Adobe Flash Player

    - Feature Update to Windows 10 Version 1909 via Enablement Package (KB17245)

    - Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB524569)

Before I backout the updates to check if they caused ntbackup to stop working, I thought I'd check to see if anyone else has this problems or knows how to fix it.

    Thanks,

    Drew

NTBackup stopped working on Windows 10 Pro

    Hi Drew,

NTbackup is very old and is no longer supported, it was made available to download in order to allow users to restore old windows XP backups to windows 7.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/974674...

it maybe that during the install of the feature update windows recognised it as incompatible software and removed it to avoid potential issues.

backups are far too important to use unsupported or out of date utilities.

i would suggest using a third party backup utility such as the free Macrium Reflect (others are available)

Problems with NTBackup on Windows 10 Pro

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

I really hate having to come here and ask for help, but I really am stumped. It hurts my geek pride. I have a PC with fairly modern hardware in it. It has a p8p67 pro in it. I have tried upgrading windows 10 on it twice now. Both times I have had the same result.

After windows finishes upgrading it goes to the log in/set up screen. I can't do anything. No keyboard or mouse input is accepted.

I will list some, or hopefully all, of the troubleshooting steps I have tried:
    • Move keyboard and mouse to different USB ports.
    • Try different keyboard or mouse.
    • Restart computer, repeatedly.
    • Google for related issues.
    • Update Bios, because why not.
    • Create boot media and revert to windows 7.
The windows 10 system restore boot media works fine with keyboard and mouse. All USB ports work in windows 7. I don't know what is wrong. I suspect that windows 10 is lacking a driver of some sort, but since the computer accepts no input I have no way of checking for which driver let alone installing it.

Please help me figure this out. If I have to revert back to windows 7 again, I am not going to get it upgraded to windows 10. Thank you in advanced.
