Windows 10: Problems with Realtek HD audio driver and audio manager on Windows 10

Hope you can help me here

I have installed Windows 10 today. So far so good, except for the sound volume being REALLY low. It appears that it is a problem with Realtek HD audio driver, so I manually downloaded it, but still the sound is very low. The audio manager, which is the mixer and volume control hub, appears in the startup programs on the task manager, but it isn't available on the desktop bottom corner, as if it's installed but cannot be used...

Thing is, on Windows 7 everything worked without any problem at all. It is really annoying that after whole this time Windows 10 still has this kind of problems...

Any solution?

How to reinstall Realtec HD Audio card?

Hi Andre,

decided not to go back in time - next Windows update would just upgrade it anyway.

Have not been able ti find the Audio Manager anymore at the Realtek so the problem is not

completely solved. My original latest Audio Manager would not install again because it could not find the Device. Microsoft should differenciate between software drivers and hardware device.

Fix for reinstalling the "Device" driver:

If anyone who is looking for re-installation of Realtek HD Audio to this version of Windows 10, (1709) here is my find:

Download Realtek HD Audio Driver R2.82.exe - (for Windows Vista, 7, 8.1, 10)

Self extracting archive which contains the Realtek HD Audio Driver Setup (4.60) R2.82.

This will install the driver, and the Device Manager will again have Realtec HD Audio device.

Installed without a hitch

I am not giving up on reinstalling the Audio Manager, but now it should find the "Device".

I think I have found a fix !

There have been multiple issues with the Realtek HD Manager service/process and Windows 10 Drivers.

open Task Manager, goto 'Startup' and disable the Realtek HD Manager from starting on boot, then reboot and see if your problem occurs.

Realtek HD Manager is related to audio however should not prevent audio from being heard if disabled.

So far so good for me!

But it didn't help. Sound is still very low and mono.

Depends on your PC hardware. Is it "fully" Win 10 compatible. As you upgraded from Win 7, not all Win 7 machines are fully Win 10 compatible.

I have Realtek audio on my Win 10 desktop and it works perfectly. However, it is a new desktop build and fully Win 10 compatible.

There are several posts about low mic volume with upgraded (no idea what hardware) from Win 7 or Win 8 and in those cases a new sound card or USB sound card was needed to get the proper mic volume.

Please fill in the "My Computer" specs so we know what we are dealing with.
