  1. Problems with WIFI wireless 5G adapter after updating to October 2018 operating system.

Last week, my Acer E5-721 laptop updated to the October 2018 operating system. As a result, my wireless adapter is no longer working properly. The adapter connects to the internet but the signal only comes in at a trickle. I have tried every fix under the sun to restore proper service but I have had no luck ( I tried 2 different adapters: Linksys AC1200 and Realtek AC1200) The 2.4 built in adapter works just fine but I would like my 5G back.

Does anybody know about this and is there a fix?

    Thanks

    Rick

Windows 10 5G nbn wifi not showing up

    Hi,

There is a possibility that the wireless network adapter of your computer is not compatible with the 5G Wi-Fi network. Just to clarify, can your computer connect to other 5G networks?

For us to verify if your computer is compatible with the 5G Wi-Fi network, kindly provide the name of the wireless network card. To determine the device's name, follow these steps:

    • Right-click the Windows logo, and then choose Device Manager.
    • Expand Network.
    • Locate the computer's wireless network card.

We'll keep an eye out for your response.

MS Wireless Display adapter stopped 2018

    Hi David,

A few possible reasons can be the cause of this problem including a recent update that introduced compatibility issues with the Wireless Display driver. In line with this, we recommend that you update or reinstall the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter driver
    on your PC. Here's how:

    • With the Wireless Display Adapter plugged in and powered on, select the
      Start
button, type Device Manager, and select it from the list of results.

    • Expand one of the categories to find the Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter device, then right-click on it, and select
      Update Driver.

    • Select Search automatically for updated driver software.

If these steps don't work, try reinstalling the driver: Open Device Manager, right-click the name of the device, and select
Uninstall. Restart your PC and Windows will attempt to reinstall the driver.

In addition, we suggest that you run the hardware troubleshooter. This tool can help diagnose and fix hardware issues.

    • Click Start.
    • On the search bar, type Troubleshooting, and click on
      Troubleshooting
      from the results.
    • Click Hardware and Sound.
    • Under Device, click Hardware and Devices.

If the issue persists, you may refer to the following link for additional troubleshooting steps that you can try:

Problem with wireless adapter or Access point

Hi TurnMarshall, I'm Graeme, an independent adviser here to help.

There could be two causes for the dropouts - your WiFi adapter or potentially your wireless router.

I'd advise firstly reinstalling the drivers for your WiFi adapter, which may resolve the issue. Here are the steps:

    - Press Windows Key+X and choose Device Manager.

    - Find your WiFi adapter in the list.

    - Right-click it and choose Update Driver.

    - If that doesn't work, try uninstalling it and then scan for hardware changes to reinstall the driver.

Once you've done that, see if the problem persists. You can then try rebooting your router to see if that fixes the issue.

Otherwise, let me know how you go and I'll see what the next step is! Thanks!
