    Processor frequency/voltage causes fps drop and laptop to shut down


    Hi, everyone. I am facing an issue of shutting off my laptop while playing a videogames.Whenever I play a game titles even 5 years old I noticed a significant fps drop from ~80 fps to 10-20fps for a 3-5 seconds. After 3-4th rep laptop just shuts off without any errors in a Windows logs. I've started to investigate a problem. I've done some stress test like AIDA64 and at the same time I've monitored a hardware paramters temperatures, voltage, power, frequency.During CPU stress test I haven't noticed any problems. Laptop was running for about 15 minutes at 100% load frequen

    processor frequency

    I have two laptops running windows 10.

    One selectable processor frequency under the power management options

    The other does not, the selection is not listed.

    The computer with the selection, was set to ZERO.

    How do I determine the frequency to set it to?

    Asus laptop drop fps whenever there's Intel driver update

    My laptop is ASUS Vivobook X556UQ and theses are its specs : LaptopMedia ASUS Vivobook X556UQ [Specs and Benchmarks] - LaptopMedia.com

    • Intel Core i7-7500U
    • NVIDIA GeForce 940MX (2GB DDR3)
    • 15.6”, Full HD (1920 x 1080)
    • 1TB HDD
    • 8GB DDR4
    My problem is whenever there's an new driver update coming out for my processor Intel or any of Intel processor's components, my laptop gets a huge drop FPS specially in video games (i made sure i checked the FPS before and after the update release).

    What is your interpretation of this weird huge drop FPS? And how to fix it?

    what is the model of your laptop. What graphic drivers do you have installed? Can you list a game or two where you measured the FPS drop?
