Windows 10: Product activation error if install FSX under Microsoft account

On window 10, do not install Flight Simulator X under Microsoft account.

It will accept product key and says activation successfully.

However if you try to run FSX, it will pop up with an error "Production Activation Error. .... the problem may be due to an incomplete installation ..."

You still able to play FSX but only for 30 minutes.

However if you switch to local account and try to run FSX, it will be fine. No activation error.

You can verify by go to help and about. You can see product ID.


My guess is that the code in FSX does not like the user name email address in Microsoft account.

FSX activation error

The first steps I would try are:

1) Locate the entry below by regedit.exe

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\CONTROL\CLASS

\{4D36E967-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

2) Look at UpperFilters key. It should contain “PartMgr” only.

3) If the key shows something more, mark down what they are

before editing the key to read “PartMgr” only.

4) Start FSX, the activation dialog should be prompted.

5) Proceed and let FSX start, then exit FSX.

6) Edit back the registry key with the previous content. (This step may not be required.)

If that does not work then I would suggest to restart your computer and try again. If that does not work then I would suggest to uninstall and re-install completely.

 

Microsoft FSX

I installed FSX standard on a windows 10 PC. I had to uninstall it and I removed the registry entries. When I tried to reinstall it, I get the options to repair or remove the program. Neither of which I can do as I have uninstalled the program.

I tried downloading Microsoft installer V4.5 but it wont run(error 0x8009602)

I tried Microsoft program install and uninstall but FSX is not in the list and the product code on the FSX box is too short to satisfy the program

Any help or suggestions appreciated

 

FSX Product Activation Error

Hi Tevin,

You appear to have a number of problems with FSX here. After you re-installed FSX, did the install go through without error? If so, then did the Activation box option appear at the end of the install? You didn't mention whether you activated it at
this point, or tried to do it when the activation error came up after flying for a while.

So, if you were wanting to try another clean install again, I would suggest that after uninstalling FSX (either from the option in Disk 1, or from your Uninstall Programs), you do a search of FSX in your file system and Registry and remove everything associated
with it. As you know, FSX puts various files in different locations.

Then do a fresh install, but instead of installing it to the default location (Program Files), install it to the root of your drive (e.g. Your drive letter:\FSX). This is so that when flying, it reads directly from its directory instead of wading through
another folder. As well, you won't have problems with Administrator rights when installing/running add on software.

After this installation, then attempt to activate the Sim. If the activation doesn't go through and gives out an error that it couldn't be activated, then you will need to try and apply a fix. I can explain that after your feedback on the result of the
install or you can find the fix that is given elsewhere in this Win10 Gaming Community Forum.

If activation goes through okay, then take a flight to make sure that there are no errors or crashes at this point. If all okay, you can go ahead and install Service Pack 1, take a flight, close FSX and then install Service Pack 2 (optional), and take a
flight. If still no problems, then reinstall your addons one a time, taking a flight in between each install to check that no problems surface. Doing it this way, will also show you, if an error comes up, what install or change may have caused the error
to occur.
