Windows 10: Product ID/Code if Windows 10 installed on different partittion.

If I want to keep Windows 7 but install Windows 10 on a different partition, what Product Key/Code do I use? Doesn't install of 10 use 7's ID/Code?

hi I have looked at what you have said and have noticed that it is product id and that is different from the product code / key is totally different from that as i looked at my widows 7 product key and my windows 7 product id is totally different
so I would assume that it is the same for windows 10

I was able to find under "System" a Product ID which is 20 digits. What is this?

So, if I had to get a different computer (hopefully not!!) ... I would be able to install Windows 10 on it WITHOUT the Windows 10 Product Key/Activation Code?

 

It's my understanding that is what happens if one wants the free Upgrade and when dual-booting each OS needs its own Product Key so perhaps a purchase of the desire version is necessary. The free Upgrade has to be done while booted into a qualifying version of Windows, i.e. Win7 w/SP1 or Win8.1, which then does take over the information from that running OS.

Win10 will only activate if you install it over Win7. If you do a clean install to a different partition, presuming Win10 has never been run before on this machine, it will never activate. The upgrade installation is what does the activation.
