Windows 10: Program Freezes When Trying to Print

The problem started when we would try to print a document, it would freeze/lock up the program we were using. Eventually I figured out that if I stopped or restarted the printer spooler service the programs would unfreeze. One trip to Microcenter for a full diagnostic. $300, New RAM, and Virus Software.. the problem still exists.What has been tried...-restart spooler-delete files in windows/system32/spool/PRINTERS-ran sfc check no issues-removed all printers from device list-ran printer troubleshooter sticks at Spooler SVCS check-tried one of my printers could not complete installation

Trying to print freezes/crashes program

Since you've tried all the possible troubleshooting steps, what we recommend is to contact your printer manufacturer for better assistance. On our end, what we can suggest is to check the current update installed in your computer and then perform some troubleshooting
steps. Can you tell us the current update or build of your computer?

Meanwhile, please follow these steps:

Method 1: Open Office apps in safe mode and then try to print a file. You may refer to this

link. If the issue does not persists with safe mode, we highly suggest that you install the latest Office updates or uninstall and reinstall the app. To do this, you follow the steps on this

Method 2: Perform a clean boot. It helps eliminate software conflicts. Here's the

link.

Method 3: Use the System File Checker and the inbox Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool. This will help you scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. To
run it:

• Select Start Windows logo Start button, and in the search box, enter Command Prompt. Press and hold (or right-click) Command
  Prompt (Desktop app) from the search results and select Run as administrator.
  
• Enter DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth (note the spaces before each "/").
• Enter sfc /scannow (note the space between "sfc" and "/").
  

After performing the said steps, please try to print again.

Trying to print freezes/crashes program

I have a user who has a konica minolta multifunction printer (network connection) which until recently (recent Windows update) was working fine.

However now whenever you attempt to print to this printer from any program (office apps, notepad etc) it program will freeze and need to be killed from the taskbar.

When trying to print from word after a fresh boot, you can open the print menu and select from various other printers because the trouble printer is not the default. Once you have attempted to print to the konica once and closed - re-opened word, the program
will then freeze the second you press the print button - presumably because it has remembered your choice from before and automatically selects the konica which means even the slightest communication to the printer causes the freeze - not just a print request.

The printer is managed from their main server. All other users can use it ok using the same driver.

The user has no odd hardware or software, there was some bluetooth manager which i killed in task-manager just in case

No driver conflicts in device manager

tried with konica as default printer and as not

Printer has been removed and re-added many times, included re-installing the driver

Have tried downloading a fresh driver from manufacturer website and installing on server and using that one instead

Have tried konica universal driver

Tried selecting wait until last page has spooled before printing

Tried selecting print directly (not spooling)

went to HKEY_CURRENT_USER -> software -> Microsoft -> WindowsNT and made sure user had permission to devices, printer ports and windows folders

Went to delete contents of "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" but it was already empty

Tried this -

Please click on start and then click on Control Panel.

Open "programs and features"

Click on "Turn windows features on or off"

Expand "Print and Document services"

Enable the options LPD and LPR

Disable the option Internet Printing Client.

Restart the computer.

Later re-install the printer drivers and verify if you are able to print.

Event viewer doesn't provide any details - just reports program stopped working, faulty package ID (but no actual ID provided)

Any ideas wth is wrong?

 

Cannot print-Windows 10-program freezes

Anil,

First, devices & printers is not an option in my device manager. Printers is a tab. no printers are checked, nor can I select any as default, though mine is listed.

Second, I get no error message.

The program (office, email, PDF, whatever I am trying to print from) freezes, and I have to restart or shut it down.
