    Programs not working


    My laptop has been running fine, but last night has stopped opening some programs, control panel will open but programs and features won't, google chrome won't open. I have deleted it and re installed it but still get the same message. I have run a full scan but nothing shows up. I have done a registry clean. Could somebody please help me solve my problem. The message is as follows

    "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\msi.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000005.

    Skyfire stopped supporting all windows 6.5 phones so why is it still on markeplace and is Microsoft going to stand up for us now that all they care about is android and Iphone

    Hi, When do you get the error message?

    - what sort of scan? AV?
    Try:
    from an admin command prompt
    SFC /SCANNOW
    and post the result.

    We don't recommend this.

    If you look at your Update History, was an update applied in the last day?

    Do you have a System restore point you can use?

    When I run the sfc/scannow it says windows resource protection could not start the service. I did a full scan last night with bitdefender. According to the update history, updates were only done today. some of them failed to instal. I will try the system restore and let you know what happens.

    Download & run Hard Disk Sentinel (trial) and post a screenshot.

    when the hard disk sentinel tries to open the following "winzip64.exe - Bad Image C\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ msi.dll is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the originall installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0x0000005. It is the same error message I get when I try and open google chrome :-(

    You can put that onto a flash drive using a different PC.

    What did Crystal Disk info say? Did it say 'Good'? Like this?

    Health Status : Caution

    Conclusion: most likely your disk is failing.

    Your other disk seems ok:
    (2) WDC WD3200BMVV-11A1CS0

    Do you use disk imaging routinely as we constantly urge people to do? (E.g. Macrium Reflect (free) + external disk for image set storage)
    If so, you can get a new disk and restore a previously created disk image to it in an hour or so.

    Failing that, you will need to do a clean install to a new disk.

    Do you have backups of all personal data on that disk? If not, try not to panic, and rescue what you can to an external disk.

    It's not worth trying if your disk is failing...

    If you have access to another PC you can extract Macrorit and put it on a USB disk and run that.
    You get a pretty picture with green and red squares- the red ones indicate faulty areas.
