Windows 10: properties of C drive shows more space used than total of all folders on root of C incl....

The properties of my local storage C drive show it is using 475 GB of storage. I got the properties of all folders on the root of C drive and the total is only 366 GB. Yes, Hidden and system files are shown. That's over 100GB of space either used or wasted somewhere. I've looked at the files that could be eliminated with Disk Cleanup but that would only eliminate ~29GB. Anyone have any insight into this before I outgrow this hard drive?

Properties are shown differently for folders and roots.
Root properties only shows used and free space.
Folder properties shows Size, Size on Disk, number of files/folders.
Questions:
1 - How can I discover on the root drive the total of folders and files on drive?
2 - Better, how could I list the number of files within each folder?
3 - Even better, how could I list the total of subfolders and files at each level within the tree branches?

 

Discrepancy between 'Used Space' on C drive and total of actual folders/files

According to 'Properties' in Windows Explorer, my C drive (one of four partitions on my primary drive) has 296GB 'Used Space' and 272GB 'Free Space', giving a total partition size of 568GB. However, if I add up the total space occupied by all the folders
and files on C drive that are listed in Windows Explorer they come to roughly 44GB. (The largest folder is Windows (19.5GB), followed by Users (9GB) and Program Files (5.8GB). The rest of the folders are smaller than this.). Nearly all my applications, data,
photos, videos, backups etc are on the other three partitions on the primary hard drive or on a secondary internal hard drive.

Can anyone suggest what accounts for the HUGE discrepancy between the reported 'Used Space' and the total of the actual folders/files? I first noticed this when backing up my C drive using Acronis TrueImage, which yields a back up file of 218GB - presumably
the 296GB with some compression. A few months back I recall that the Acronis backup files were sized at around 60-70GB, so there's something funny going on! If there is some giant folder or file that is lurking on my C drive, what could it be and why isn't
it showing up in Windows Explorer?

Apps and Features only show the size of the installed apps.

An easy way to see the total usage of the hard drive is to look in File Explorer.

Open File Explorer, in the left side Navigation Pane,
Right Click the C: Drive and select Properties.

This will open a window showing the total and used space on the drive.





You can also click Settings/System/Storage to see the status of the hard drives.
