  2. OK, I got to experimenting here and find that, on my system at least, the file apparently gets so long (53,725 lines combined) it not only slows down, but will actually not open sites. Reverting back to the shorter version and everything is back to normal.

I fell victim to a browser coin miner just this week on a well known company's website. The moderator confirmed the code was maliciously placed and has since been removed.

I first noticed my CPU temps were very high on the desktop and thought my cooler had failed and brought a replacement! I then noticed the high CPU utilization of Chrome in Task Manager and eventually found the culprit website. Apparently if I had Malwarebyte's premium I would have been protected.

Are there any Chrome extensions you guy's have preferences on or is this host file the way to go? Cheers!

Read the thread from the beginning, and download the shortcut I made(it makes opening hosts correctly much easier).
If you use the host file, for each update you will need to delete the old, then paste the new in, so it is recommended, that you always keep it as the last section, to make it easier when making changes, as it is updated every couple of day's(or when ever you get around to looking).

When I update I prefer using Edge over Chrome, as Edge has a "select all" right click option that Chrome doesn't.

The hosts file you've added has all of the text jumbled together in note pad. Can this be separated to a more appropriate layout?

I copy it from Edge, and then paste it in notepad using my shortcut(download in first post), and have no problems.
I got a warning today that they posted using ANSI instead of Unicode for the encoding. when I wanted to save, but clocked ok and it save correctly though.

You can also use Internet Explore and manually change the encoding, and that will solve the problem:
