  1. Prtoblem with File sharing Win 10

    I have a laptop and a PC.

    Both running Win 10 2004

Laptop can see and read PC but whilst the PC can sometimes see the laptop it cannot read the files.

Both devices have file sharing enabled and all the set ups the same.

They are both running Local Administrator accounts.

The only difference is that the PC was set up before I had a Microsoft account, but the PC was initially set up using my Microsoft account

The user names on both were set as I required but because the laptop was set up using the Microsoft account it defaulted to name the user in C:\Users account using the first 5 characters of my email. The display user names are as they were chosen.

The difference that I cannot work out is this:

I have tried all the things recommended but dont understand why the file sharing is different

    Any help appreciated

    :)

  3. File Sharing between homegroup computers using Win 10 and Win 7

None of he suggestions offered have solved he problem. However, I found out why I was not able to see the Window 7 PC folders on my Win 10 laptop. It was all related to the difference in how you find a computers on a homegroup. As it turns out, the
Windows 10 menu structure for getting to the Network is different between the Win 7 and Win 10 operating systems. The homegroup computers can be seen on the Win 7 buy going to Network and File Sharing on the Control Panel and by clicking on the the House
Icon between the Win 7 PC icon and the Internet Icon. These icons are not part of the Network and File Sharing menu on Win 10. Instead, the homegroup computers can be found on the Network icon under the Computer Menu on Win 10 computers. Once I found Win
7 listed under the Network Icon on the Win 10 computer I was able to access all of the shared folders on the Win 7 PC.

Prtoblem with File sharing Win 10

    Win 10 Network file sharing

    Hi Charles,

We would like to ask for more information about your concern so we could provide a proper resolution. Kindly answer the following questions:

    • Since when have you been experiencing this issue?
    • When was the last time that your Vista desktop and Windows 10 laptop see or share files to your Windows 10 desktop?
    • Were there any changes made on your devices prior to the issue?

Meanwhile, we suggest running the troubleshooter for shared folders. This will automatically find and fix issues with accessing files and folders on other computers.

To run this troubleshooter, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot, and then select
    Shared Folders.

We look forward to your response.
