    Hello i have a problem with my coolmaster gx 750 watt psu its gold rated windows runs fine but any sort of gaming and the psu powers of and resets the pc with complete power failure iv ordered a g2 super nova evga but want to know if this is still usesble it was working until i seitched the psu thanks

    Is this the Right Wattage for a PSU for Gaming?


    I think I made a mistake in buying a PSU with 750 watts for my gaming PC with Nvidia 1080. I think I should've bought one with 850 or 1000 watts. The reason being is that I calculated the necessary power according to my parts through newegg's power calculator. It spit out an output of 789 watts. Since I got a PSU of 750 watts, I don't think this will cut it.

    What do you think? Should I return this PSU in exchange for a 850 or 1000 watt PSU?

    Can I connect GPU to this PSU?


    Also what would happen if the PSU did not output enough current for the GPU? For example 20A instead of 30? Would the GPU still function? Could it get damaged?

    Theoretically a molex->PCIe adapter could work. However, you have to look at the power output of the individual voltage rails on the PSU (usually printed on a sticker on the PSU)- the total power output is not a useful number, especially for older units.

    Current CPUs and GPUs pull almost all their power off of the 12V rail. Old CPUs pulled almost all their power off the 5V or 3.3V rails.

    A modern 400W PSU may output 30A at 12V but an old 400W PSU may only output 15A at 12V.
