Public Health England (PHE) to migrate its 5,500 staff to Windows 10 devices

Staffordshire-based system builder Stone Group will supply Public Health England (PHE) with 6,200 Toshiba and Lenovo devices powered by Microsoft’s latest desktop system and migrate its 5,500 staff to Windows 10 devices, as part of the deal.

It certainly makes sense for Public Health England (PHE) weaned on Windows 7 devices to migrate to Windows 10 as Microsoft would stop supporting the old operating system by January 2020.

“This means we are very well placed to help PHE transition to the new Windows 10 devices seamlessly. For PHE, this was a real game changer, and eased their decision to choose Stone as their preferred supplier,” says Simon Pettit, corporate director at Stone Group.

It is also worth noting that new Windows 10 devices will be pre-configured to use Stone’s System Centre Configuration Manager solution.

It’s likely that the migration will complete real soon but the organization also has to deal with compatibility issues that need to be addressed before switching some systems to Windows 10.

In the past few years, the organizations with Windows 10 have praised the operating system for both security and performance. Needless to say, Windows 10 is the most secure version of Microsoft’s desktop platform and it has also improved the application performance on some hardware.

In April, the United States Department of Defense (DoD) also completed the migration to Windows 10 with nearly all systems running the Microsoft’s latest desktop operating.

  2. USB 3 on Windows 10, device not migrated.

    Hi David,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you are getting prompt “device not migrated when connected to USB 3.0".

    I will certainly help you.

This issue might occur if the device settings are incorrect or due to corrupted or incompatible drivers.

Let us try the following steps, and check if it helps.

Step 1: Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with devices and hardware. Here's how:

    • Open Control Panel by right click on
      Start Button.

    • In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click
      Troubleshooting.

    • Click on the view all option on the left panel.

    • Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.
Step 2: Update the drivers of the USB controllers

For Windows to recognize your device, you might need to find and install a compatible driver. Outdated, incompatible, or corrupted drivers can disrupt communication within the system.

Most hardware interfaces require driver software to work properly. If you recently upgraded from one version of Windows to another, power outages, viruses, or other computer problems, it's possible that the drivers have become
corrupted. Downloading and installing the latest driver can resolve these types of problems.

I suggest you to follow the steps recommended by Andre Da Costa
on Updating drivers from following article and check if it resolves the issue.

How to: Install and Update drivers in Windows
    10

    Hope it helps.

Let us know the status, we are glad to assist you further.

  3. What is the meaning of 'device could not be migrated' in device manager?

This is boiler plate reply to a question which has been around for a long time.

Is Microsoft unable to reply in plain English to a simple question.

It is obvious that many devices were not 'migrated' when computers were updated to windows 10 on Microsoft's insistence and do not work properly.

In my case it was a USB composite device. My work around when the USB ports no longer work is to uninstall the driver and restart the computer which re-installs the same driver supplied by Microsoft.

Surely Microsoft must know of this problem and that its replies are useless.

What does it mean 'Device could not be migrated?
