Hi,I have just purchased the HEVC extension from Microsoft, as there was a warning when I tried to play a Samsung mobile video recorded in HEVC. However, after I purchased and installed, although the video can now be played, the video screen has the lower half in grey while the upper half is normal. This does not apply to all my HEVC videos but just around half of them.Does anyone know how to fix this?I normally use windows default photos or movie and TV app to browse Po tire and video recorded by my Samsung phoneThanks a lot in advanced

    :)

"HEVC Video Extensions from Device Manufacturer" installed on computer but missing from Microsoft Store list

I became aware of CVE-2020-17022 (Microsoft Windows Codecs Library Remote Code Execution Vulnerability). The FAQ says I'm affected if I
have "HEVC video extensions from device manufacturer" installed. I do! It says I'll get the updated bugfix version via the Microsoft Store app. Yet the Microsoft Store app doesn't show it as an available update. I've had the Store app set for automatic
updates for several days now. It's updated a number of my apps, but not the HEVC video extensions app.

According to Settings > Apps, my current HEVC video extensions app is version 1.0.32022.0, published
by Microsoft. It was last updated on 8/19/20.

The CVE says that the "secure versions" are1.0.32762.0, 1.0.32763.0, and later.

Howcome Microsoft Store isn't updating my HEVC video extensions app?

I'm running Windows 10 Pro, version 1909 x64, on a PC. Windows Update delivered the October updates last week, so I'm up to date.

P.S. I've modeled this question on one posted in July 2020, with the same subject. That user had the same problem I'm having, with the same app but regarding earlier CVEs,
and eventually reported that although Store didn't list the HEVC video extensions as an available update, leaving Store set to automatic update all apps eventually caused it to happen. I'm not having luck with that approach, as described above.

    HEVC Video Extensions

Hi DennisDennison1 and thanks for reaching out. My name is Joseph. I'm an independent advisor. I'll be happy to help you out today.

It is just an extension/codec that installed on your Windows 10 to be able to play HEVC or H.264 video format using the default video player installed on your Windows 10 PC.

Play High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) videos in any video app on your Windows 10 device. These extensions are designed to take advantage of hardware capabilities on some newer devices— including those with an Intel 7th Generation Core processor and newer GPU to support 4K and Ultra HD content. For devices that don’t have hardware support for HEVC videos, software support is provided, but the playback experience might vary based on the video resolution and PC performance. These extensions also let you encode HEVC content on devices that don’t have a hardware-based video encoder.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask back any questions and let me know how it goes.

    Thank you!
