    Purchased upgrade to Windows 10 on Microsoft site, but cannot apply product key


    I purchased Windows 10 Home and downloaded and ran the installer. It installed the upgrade from Windows 7 and now it somehow became Windows 10 Pro and I cannot apply the license I just paid for. How can I fix this? Why would it download and install a version different from what I just bought?

    No product key after Windows 10 purchase

    Welcome to Microsoft Community and thank you for your interest in Windows 10.

    • How did you upgrade to windows 10?
    • Have you done clean install?
    • Are you getting any error message?
    • From where have you purchased the Windows 10?
    If you have purchased from online Microsoft store or any store I suggest you to contact them for the product key.

    Please do let us know with more information, so that we can assist you better.

    If you upgraded to Windows 10 for free and ended up in a non-activated state, try following these steps:

    • Go to Start
      Purchased upgrade to Windows 10 on Microsoft site, but cannot apply product key [​IMG]
      , then select Settings > Update & security > Activation.
    • Select Go to Store, and check to see if a valid license is available for your device. If a license isn't available, you'll need to buy Windows from the Store.

      Note
      • This only applies if you haven't made changes to the hardware for your device.

    or you could hack it with a crack but please note this is always risky and you don't know what's in the hack

    I won't buy a key, stupid.

    I'll revert back to windows 7 then.

    When I still was on windows 7, about a year ago I added 4GB extra ram which is a total of 8GB now,
    is that causing the problem?
