I have recently purchased a Lenovo Legion Y530-151CH with windows 10 Home installed.

When visiting the Settings UI there was an advertisement to upgrade (from the Store) to Windows 10 Pro.

It had buttons, I pressed the accept and was taken to the Store page for this. It was a purchase. I entered my credit card number and successfully made the purchase.

The upgrade process began and seemed to be working ok. It ended in success.

But, the version (Windows 10 Enterprise, not Pro) was not activated and all atempts to activate failed.

(I found the original product-key for this device, it failed. The original digital license connected to my account had not affect.)

On turning this laptop off for the first time since the upgrade, I saw a quick flash of a long {....} code in the 'preventing shutdown' list, then the shutdown happened before I was able to make a copy of this code.

I believe from this that the upgrade process is faulty. I mentioned this in the Feedback Hub, attempting to be helpful (I am a Windows Insider).

Over the next week the performance of my laptop slowly degraded until it froze completely, forcing a manual shutdown (holding the power button down for 5 seconds).

I tried to restart the laptop, it froze early in the start-up cycle, never even getting to Windows. Again I forced a shutdown.

I have repeated this many times. Each time results in a freeze, often at different stages of the start-up, sometimes even getting to a Windows start-up, which freezes pretty quickly.

I went to the Lenovo support site, made a USB stick of the Windows 10 Home that came with this laptop. But the freeze on start-up never allowed my repeated pressing of F1 or F12 (as recomended) to result in a UEFI screen, so I have not been able to re-install the original Windows.

Today I have to resort to the final option, to return the laptop and (under the warranty) get it re-flashed with the factory default image, then start again.

Windows 10 Pro is crucial for my work as I need the Hyper V feature.

Therefore this failure is directly affecting my ability to work.

    Questions:

How do I obtain a working Windows 10 Pro download that I can then install for myself after my laptop is fixed and returned to me (I do not trust the online upgrade process, it is obviously flawed, so I want a version that I can download and install at my leisure, afterall, I have paid for it)?

Will I be able to activate a version that I am able to install?

If this is not possible, how do I get re-imbursed for the cost of this order (that bricked my laptop)?

Do Microsoft ever respond and solve situations like this, does anyone have a successful outcome story?

What is the best next step (apart from accepting the financial loss)?

    :)

  2. Can't upgrade from Windows 10 Home to Pro

    Hi Bill,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community. We apologize for the inconvenience caused and will assist you in the best possible ways.

I suggest you to download and create an installation media for Windows 10 Pro form the link provided below:

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-in/software-download/windows10

After the installation media is created, suggest you to upgrade to Windows 10 Pro from the installation media. When the upgrade asks for product key, enter the product key purchased for Windows 10 Pro. If it does not accept, suggest you to skip the activation
step. After the Operating System is installed, suggest you to activate by phone by following the steps below:

    • Press “Windows key + R” and type “slui 4” and press Enter.
    • Select the Region from the list and click Next.

  3. Windows 10 Activation Error: 0xC004F034

    Hi Greg,

This error code is usually caused by a problem with the product key. For better assistance, we would like to clarify how you got the Windows 10 Pro? Is it supplied by a company?

As an initial troubleshooting step, we suggest that you run the Activation troubleshooter and try activating Windows 10 Pro again. To run the Activation troubleshooter, follow these steps:

    • Click the Start button and select the Settings
      icon.
    • Choose Update & Security from the list.
    • Select Activation in the left pane of the window.
    • Click Troubleshoot.

If your Windows 10 Pro is supplied by a company, we recommend that you get in touch with your organization's support for assistance with the activation.

We'll be waiting to your reply.

    Activation of Windows

    Hi Austin,

We need to clarify a few things first for us to know why you're not able to activate your Windows 10. Kindly answer these questions:

    • How did you purchase your Windows 10? Please provide us the step-by-step process on how you did it.
    • Which edition of Windows 10 did you purchase? Did you purchase Windows 10 Home or Windows 10 Pro.
    • When you bought your Windows 10, did it come with an installer?
    • What are the steps that you've done so far?
