Windows 10: Purchased Windows 10 Pro Retail directly from Microsoft last week but can't re-activate.

Purchased retail version of Win 10 Pro from Microsoft. It shows up in my purchase history. I was able to activate initially with no issue. Decided to switch machines. Prior to moving to a different machine, I uninstalled the existing product key from the first machine using the slmgr /upk and slmgr /cpky commands. I received successful confirmations for each. In retrospect, I'm not sure that was necessary for a digital license.Installed Windows on a new machine thinking, as noted in several places, that the digital license would easily move to a replacement machine.When attempting to act

Cannot activate Win10 Pro after Microsoft Store app purchase

Hello guys,

My laptop came pre-installed with Win10 Home 64bit and I recently purchased a Win 10/11 Pro licence from the Microsoft Store app. Unfortunately, having some issues activating the digital licence for Win10 Pro.

Here is the situation:

• Logged into Microsoft account used for the purchase (also received the email receipt of the purchase)
• Already connected to stable internet

What I tried so far:

Entering the Win10 Pro generic key:



Received error 0x800700005:





Clicking Close returned another error 0xC004F034:





Clicking Troubleshoot re-activated my Win10 Home so still not on Pro.

Is there a "retail" version of Windows 10 available for purchase?


If you buy Windows 10 from Microsoft Store, it is the retail version if it is not specifically mentioned it is an OEM version. You can get it on USB if you need physical install media instead of an ISO. The original Microsoft Windows 10 USB install media contains both bit versions.

At the moment Microsoft does not directly sell OEM or System Builder versions to consumers. You can buy OEM for instance from Newegg: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro 64-bit - Newegg.com ($139.99 + $2.99 shipping)

Windows 10 Home will be $119, Pro $199.

Microsoft: Windows 10 Home costs $119, Pro costs $199



Which is good news actually, because Windows 8.1 is loads cheaper than previous versions (retail licensing at Windows 7 OEM prices). And it sort of puts a huge hole in the Windows subscription theory.
