I made a real doozy here. I get a message that says "unable to sign into account. Signed into TEMP account. Ect.." Iv tried removing the .bak from the account file and removing password required from one of the shorter accounts? Per a YouTube suggestion both thing revert after I restart. I think some relevant info is that for a short time. The C drive in question was the C drive in this l second PC copied the data to. But was never it's original host. Also both PCs uses a similar hard drive for primary, both are ADATA SSDs I just built my gf a gaming rig and I never thought just transfering Drives around like thumb drives could completely screw up on of them. Thanks for any help.

  2. pammort Win User

I changed a user name in 'c drive' - 'users'. Now I am unable to log into that account. How do I fix it?

There is a second account on my laptop. I went into the c drive, users, and changed the user name. It was something random (do not remember it) to the name of the account user. Now he is unable to access his account. On the c drive - users, his attempts
to log in are listed as 'Temporary'.

What do I need to do to fix this?

Thank you in advance for your assistance!

  3. transferring data between user accounts

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

I understand your query related to transferring user data from one user account to another user account. Kindly follow the steps mentioned below to transfer the data.

    1. Login to the new administrator account.
    2. Press Windows + E keys to open
      File Explorer.
    3. Now click on View tab and check the box
      Hidden items.
    4. Navigate to the location C:\Users\Old_Username, where
C is the drive that Windows is installed on, and Old_Username is the name of the profile you want to copy files from.
    5. Copy all of the files and folders in this folder, except the following files:

      Ntuser.data

      Ntuser.dat.log

      Ntuser.ini
    6. Now go to C:\Users\New_Username and
Paste all the files that you have copied.

Once you transfer the user account data you can delete the user account that is not required.

Let us know how it goes.

How to copy administrator user account

    Hi,

I suggest you to follow the below steps to copy the user date and check if it helps.

Note: I suggest to create a new user profile and transfer user data to new account and delete or change the corrupt user profile.

Copy User Data: Follow the below steps to copy files to the new user profile

    • Log on as a user other than the user whose profile you are copying files to or from.
    • In Windows Explorer, click View, and Check mark hidden files and folders, uncheck the
Hide protected operating system files check box, and then click
      OK
      .
    • Locate the C:\Users\Old Username folder, where
C is the drive on which Windows is installed, and Old Username is the name of the profile you want to copy user data from.
    • Press and hold down the CTRL key while you click each file and subfolder in this folder, except the following files:

    • Ntuser.dat

    • Ntuser.dat.log

    • Ntuser.ini
    • On the Edit menu, click
      Copy
      .
    • Locate the C:\Users\New Username folder, where
C is the drive on which Windows is installed, and New Username is the name of the user profile that you created in the "Create a New User Profile" section.
    • On the Edit menu, click
      Paste
      .
    • Log off the computer, and then log on as the new user.

Keep us informed if the issue is resolved. We are glad to help you further.
