    Q: re Windows Defender\mpcmdrun.exe

    Hello Ten,
I run third party AV. So, Windows Defender is off and Windows Defender Service is Manual -- not running.
    I'm wondering why I see > C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\mpcmdrun.exe called.
    I found > MpCmdRun.exe running, but I use a different antivirus, why? - Anti-Virus, Anti-Malware, and Privacy Software
and I found > It's the Windows Defender Command Line Utility.
Wondering, why does > Windows Defender\mpcmdrun.exe want to run. I've blocked thru blacklist.
Curious, why the heck is mpcmdrun so persistent with Windows Defender not running.

    few Q's re firmware updates

Fixes should be "cumulative". So, if the original firmware version is, say 1.0, then 1.1 addresses issues that were in 1.0. And then 1.2 would add new stuff, but include everything that was in 1.1 and 1.0, too.

In other words, you do not need intermediate firmware versions, just the last/latest one available.

Note: With complex software (phone firmware or otherwise), when you fix an issue/defect/bug, it often introduces new ones that may or may not be immediately detected and fixed.

    few Q's re firmware updates

Complete novice here, so bear with me, i'm still learning!

1- is firmware and software the same thing?

2- do you have to install updates in sequence?? ie: my new N95 has firmware v 10.0.018 on it, the nokia software updater says v 11.0.026 is now available, how do I know if there were any in between??

3- does each update "fix" a different problem? ie: would the latest update fix the same problems that an earlier one would have fixed too, as well as its own new fixes? (does that make sense!?)

4- is there a way to find out what Fixes are contained in each update?? (ie: how do i know what i'm going to to do my phone if I install the v 11.0.26!)

that's all I can think of for now!!

    Thanks!

    Q: re Windows Defender\mpcmdrun.exe

Um, is my Topic under moderation review.

  5. Most likely it's due to a scheduled task. Check your task scheduler (Windows>Windows Defender).

No scheduled task for Windows Defender. And I have C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\mpcmdrun.exe blacklisted. I see stuff like dstokenclean, compattelrunner, dmclient and mpcmdrun called in my anti-executable event log. NoVirusThanks EXE Radar Pro is great fun. And at least one Bleeping member wanted to know too. Thanks

  7. By default, there are 4, unless you have Insider version. Also make sure to disable all its services (Wdfilter particulary).

    • schtasks /Change /TN "Microsoft\Windows\Windows Defender\Windows Defender Cache Maintenance" /Disable
    • schtasks /Change /TN "Microsoft\Windows\Windows Defender\Windows Defender Cleanup" /Disable
    • schtasks /Change /TN "Microsoft\Windows\Windows Defender\Windows Defender Scheduled Scan" /Disable

      reg add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Sense" /v "Start" /t REG_DWORD /d "4" /f (this one is in Insider)
      reg add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\WdFilter" /v "Start" /t REG_DWORD /d "4" /f
