Windows 10: Qualcomm Unveils Networking Pro Series Platforms for Wi-Fi 6

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), today announced Qualcomm® Networking Pro Series platforms, its second-generation Wi-Fi 6 networking offerings, designed to deliver the ultimate Wi-Fi 6 connectivity experience across the widest range of applications. At Qualcomm® Wi-Fi 6 Day in San Francisco, executives are demonstrating the Qualcomm Networking Pro Series, comprised of four platforms, the 1200, 800, 600, and 400, distinguished by format, scale of application, and computing needs. The platforms leverage the company’s unique Wi-Fi 6 architecture and approach and are designed for densely congested networks, onboarding of hundreds of devices without degradation of user experience, and high performance.

Modern networks are overmatched by the number of devices and data demands placed on them in the most densely populated environments today. Networks must meet expectations for high bandwidth, low latency, and with fair and simultaneous access. This reality belies the promise of the Wi-Fi 6 standard and demands a new architectural approach to wireless networking silicon optimized for this environment. The Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms are built for the dense connectivity requirements of modern Wi-Fi networks, with Wi-Fi 6 features offering increased network capacity for high-density environments such as university lecture halls, malls, stadiums, and office buildings.

The Qualcomm Networking Pro Series spans four tiered platforms designed to provide OEMs with maximum flexibility. Each platform leverages all elements of Qualcomm Technologies’ Wi-Fi 6 differentiated feature implementation, but is distinguished by format, scale of application, and computing profile:

Qualcomm Networking Pro 1200 Platform (supports up to 12 spatial streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with up to 2.2GHz Quad-core A53 processor)

Qualcomm Networking Pro 800 Platform (supports up to 8 spatial streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with up to 1.4GHz Quad-core A53 processor)

Qualcomm Networking Pro 600 Platform (supports up to 6 spatial streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with up to 1.0GHz Quad-core A53 processor)

Qualcomm Networking Pro 400 Platform (supports up to 4 spatial streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity with up to 1.0GHz Quad-core A53 processor)

Derived from decades of R&D and proven engineering expertise across multiple connectivity portfolios, the Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms bring a highly differentiated portfolio of features that go far beyond the standards to deliver superior performance outcomes:

8x8 radio support – Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms expand overall available capacity by offering up to 12 full streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity (in the 1200 tier), including 8 streams of Wi-Fi 6 connectivity in the 5GHz band.

Qualcomm Technologies’ multi-use scheduling algorithms represent a distinctly differentiated form of traffic management for Wi-Fi. Through its advanced implementation of Wi-Fi 6 protocol standards, networks built on Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms can set a new benchmark for prioritizing network access for large numbers of connected clients:

MU-MIMO: Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms support MU-MIMO in the uplink and downlink across all bands, ensuring maximum capacity (up to 12 independent chains of Wi-Fi to simultaneously connect MU-MIMO capable clients).

OFDMA: Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms support OFDMA in the uplink and downlink across all bands with up to support for 37 users per 5GHz channel used.

Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms employ Qualcomm Technologies’ highly differentiated maximum user networking architecture, a unique design developed through research and development into extreme high-density deployments. This network architecture has been designed to successfully associate and maintain connectivity for up to 1500 clients simultaneously, making it the ideal architecture for a host of next-gen enterprise and carrier-class deployments.

The Qualcomm Networking Pro 1200 platform supports unique reconfiguration or wireless resources. Customers can design for either dual- or tri-radio operation (8x8 + 4x4 or 4x4 + 4x4 + 4x4) without the need to add a separate radio component.

Qualcomm Networking Pro Series platforms support the Wi-Fi 6 modulation scheme, 1024QAM, enabling up to 38% higher raw throughput vs. Wi-Fi 5.

Security: Qualcomm Technologies’ security implementation translates to support for the full WPA3 security suite (Personal, Enterprise, Opportunistic Wireless Encryption, Easy Connect).

Qualcomm announces full featured Wi-Fi 6 mobile SoC at MWC19

The next generation of Wi-Fi is here — Wi-Fi 6. Qualcomm Technologies is changing the game with this latest breakthrough in connectivity by going above and beyond standards specifications to dramatically enhance user experiences with advancements in speed, latency, coverage, and capacity. Coupled with significant improvements in battery efficiency and a suite of Wi-Fi security protocols based on WPA3, we are aiming to set a new bar by which all other solutions will be measured.

At MWC19 Barcelona, we delivered Wi-Fi 6 to the world in two groundbreaking ways: First, we announced Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform-based devices with our WCN3998 chipset integrated to support key Wi-Fi 6 features, and second, we provided our distinctive view of what our full-featured Wi-Fi 6 mobile SoC looks like, ready for standard certification later this year.

What is Wi-Fi 6?

Wi-Fi 6, the sixth generation of Wi-Fi that’s based on the 802.11ax specification, is a cousin of sorts to 5G. Qualcomm Technologies’ approach to Wi-Fi 6

Wi-Fi 6-ready Snapdragon Mobile Platforms

With the rapid adoption of our Wi-Fi 6-based networking platforms, we were also driven to ensure all users could enjoy the benefits of Wi-Fi 6 on their smartphones in the same time frame. For this reason, we accelerated support for some key Wi-Fi 6 features on our Wi-Fi 6-ready 2x2 WCN3998 chipset, well ahead of the standards timeline. As we announced at the Snapdragon Tech Summit last December, this chipset is an important part of the Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform, giving it access to Wi-Fi 6 advancements for extended capacity, range and performance (8-stream sounding MU-MIMO), power efficiency (Target Wake Time) and Advanced Security (WPA3).

An assortment of these first Snapdragon 855 phones designed to support both 5G and Wi-Fi 6 features are being launched at MWC19 Barcelona. And while Snapdragon 855 devices were the first for Qualcomm Technologies, you can expect these capabilities to appear on other Snapdragon Mobile Processors in the future with our 2x2 WCN3998 and 1x1 WCN3988 Wi-Fi 6-ready chipsets.

Blazing the trail to full-featured Wi-Fi 6

Our MWC19 Barcelona announcement of the Qualcomm QCA6390 Connectivity SoC for Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1 unveiled the next leap forward. This SoC builds on our previous capabilities with additional support for the full set of Wi-Fi 6 features, and in most cases, our implementation goes far beyond what is required by the standard.

Most notably, this new flagship Wi-Fi 6 SoC offers our customers and end users:

Identifying device technology

To help users identify devices that provide the latest Wi-Fi experience, Wi-Fi Alliance has introduced simplified generational names that may appear in device names and product descriptions. Wi-Fi devices supporting the latest generation of connectivity are based on the 802.11ax standard and are known as Wi-Fi 6 devices.

Identifying network connections

Wi-Fi devices may also use a user interface (UI) icon on the display to identify the generation of a network connection. The icons will display a Wi-Fi signal indicator and a numerical representation of the connection. Icons will adjust as users move between Wi-Fi networks that provide a different user experience. When a user device displays a signal indicator icon accompanied by the number 6, indicating a Wi-Fi 6 connection, that device is utilizing the most advanced version of Wi-Fi available.

Windows 10 stop automatically connecting to random new wi-fi networks

Hi,

I have searched a lot, but all the tutorials I found only explained how to not connect automatically to a known wi-fi network or how to disable wi-fi sense... but this is not what I am looking for...

PROBLEM:

When my laptop (Windows 10 Pro X64) is not connected to a network and the wireless adapter is on, it will automatically connect to any random new unsecured wi-fi network... The only way I have now to avoid this is to disable my wi-fi adapter.

UNUSEFUL TUTORIALS I FOUND ON THE INTERNET:

How to manually uncheck the option for a particular wi-fi network not to connect automatically in Network Properties. This is not what I am looking for. This would suggest that everytime I power my computer. I would have to manually go through all the available wi-fi networks and unclick them all...

How to disable Wi-Fi Sense. This is not useful, because I don't even have a Wi-Fi sense option in my computer where the tutorials say it should be.

EXPECTED BEHAVIOR:

I am looking for an option to tell my computer to stop connecting randomly to unknown wi-fi networks like an hyperactive, reckless idiot.

PERSONAL COMMENT:

Honestly, why would any respectable company think that it could be somewhat wise or secure to do this... Anyone's computer could just randomly connect to any hacker's wi-fi network without the user even knowing it...

Any solutions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
