Windows 10: [Query]Can i fit in a diff brand RAM with diff freq?

Dear All,
I am currently having a single stick of Corsair Vengeance 8 GB DDR3 1600 Mhz RAM in my system.
I want to fit in another 8 GB module to have a total of 16 GB RAM. Do I have to get the same model of RAM as my existing one for that or I can opt for a Kingston HyperX Fury 8 GB DDR3 1866 Mhz RAM?
Please clarify.

Can't be 100% certain when you mix RAM modules of different makes and speeds but it's pretty likely it would work. One thing is sure is that both would be running at the speed and settings of slower one.

 

From what I read and from my experience you really should use memory that is exactly the same. The speed is not a big issue as the other specs.. voltages etc.

I would stick with the same brand/model of RAM.

It may work but it's not optimal. Dual channel likely won't work unless they both have the exact same timings. It most likely won't be as fast as having two identical modules. If you already have the module in your hand go ahead and try it. If your going to buy it, I'd try to find a match to what you have now first. IMHO, it will be worth it as far as speed and stability go even if you have to pay more for the matching module.

 

yes, i agree it will be wiser to stick to the same brand/ model than experimenting with a diff. brand. many thanks for your response guys; marking this thread as solved now.
