    1. I wish to change fr**** user account. I do not use Hotmail or Outlook.

    2. I wish to keep all the settings etc stored under my username which is the first 5 letters of my Hotmail account.

    3. Lastly, I wish to terminate my Hotmail account - no advice required.

My concern is loss of data and settings from my user account. How do I accomplish this - numbered easy steps please.

  2. Switch user account to local account from Microsoft Account

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

In this case I would suggest you to sign in with your Microsoft Account and then switch it to a local account instead. In this way, Microsoft Account credential will remain and you can use various other apps through those credentials.

    Follow the steps below:

    1. Login to Microsoft Account.

    2. Go to Settings > Accounts > Your account.

    3. Select Sign-in with a local account instead.

    4. Provide your current Microsoft Account Password.

    5. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Hope this helps. Please respond if you have further related queries.

    Regards,

  4. Query related to switching to Local Account, and closing Microsoft Account

Query about changing the account name

    Hi Stephanie,

Since you have already changed the name on your Microsoft account, we suggest switching into a local account, and then log back in with your Microsoft account. This way, we can be sure that any changes made to your Microsoft account will be synced to your
    local user account.

For steps on how to switch to a local account:

    • Click on Start.
    • Click on Settings.
    • Click on Accounts.
    • Under Your account, click on Switch to a local account.

To switch back to a Microsoft account:

    • Follow steps 1-3 above to get to Accounts.
    • Under Your account, click on Sign in with a Microsoft account instead.

If the issue persists, please do not hesitate to get back to us.
