Windows 10: Question about accessing my router

I have Windows 10 2004 update. No more updates available at this time. For a while now, I have not been able to access my router using the standard 192.168.X.X. It shows up as cannot connect to the webpage, as if I don't have my wifi on. However, I AM able to connect using my iPad which is on the same network. I have tried with several browsers and it is the same issue. If you need a screenshot of what I am seeing when I try to connect to the router I will provide those from both Firefox and Chrome browsers. I am just finding it strange that I am able to connect with my iPad which is on the same network as my laptop but I cannot connect to the router from my laptop. I do get wifi and have full capabilities of wifi, just cannot connect to the router to make changes.

How to factory reset Cisco 1700 Router

Hopefully I can help you here....its a very common thing to happen.

First, I take it you dont know the passwords for console access or telnet/ssh?

I will assume that these devices belong to you.

step 1. Plug a cisco console cable into a serial port on your pc
step 2. Plug other end into Cisco console port
step 3. Using hyperterm or putty or similar connect to the serial port
step 4. boot router, and make sure you clearly can see the output (this confirms you have good serial comms)
step 5. if this fails, adjust the comm port settings (9600, 8,1,n are the default)
step 6. now you have to do the only hard part...send the break command:

Go down the list and match your OS and SW and try the sequence suggested.

If this fails several times do what I do: Install putty (free) and then to send a break so you can get into rommom just hit "ctrl-a b".

Unable to access my router

The router's gateway would be your modem or ISP WAN. What is its address?

So by saying it has no default gateway, you shouldn't have Internet right now. Is that the case too?

Open command prompt and type IPCONFIG /ALL. Your gateway should be listed...its usually the first available host address on a network. Example... 192.168.0.1

If your IP Address is 192.168.100.137 odds are your router is 193.168.100.1. That would be your NICs gateway address and what you would type into your web browser to access your router.

You might already know this. But I wanted to cover that much so we can get an idea of where to go from here. Cheers!

1. I already have a gateway configured in my house, so no, i'm not relying on this router for internet. However, I plan to make this into an access point in the very near future.

2.This is what I'm getting when i follow that step....

Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : 169.254.205.6(Preferred
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :

So with this i tried 169.254.205.1 with unlucky results :/

I cant access to my wifi router

If you are unable to connect access your wifi router then there must be some problem with connection. I think the following step scan help you to connect it properly to wireless router.

Connect your computer to the wireless router. Although you can access the router wirelessly, it is better to use an Ethernet cable to directly connect to your router so that you can securely adjust router settings. Plug the Ethernet cable into the appropriate Ethernet jack on your computer. Plug the other end of the cable into any one of the open Ethernet ports on the back of your wireless router.

2. Open a Web browser. In the URL address field, enter the IP address for your wireless router. This information should be contained in your router’s manual. If you cannot find it, enter “198.168.1.1” as the address. This is usually the default IP address for most routers.

3. Enter the username and password for your router. This should also be supplied in the router’s manual. If you don’t have this information, go to the RouterPasswords website and find the brand and model of your router. This site lists the default login information for most wireless routers.

4. You should now be able to see your wireless router settings. You can configure your network ports, as well as SSID (wireless network name) and passwords.
