Question about saving to Documents and other folders

Upgraded last night and am slowly working through minor issues.

One thing that's confusing me - my username is supposed to be in the Administrator group on my computer, but my settings seem to be connected to the Home User group instead. I first discovered this when I tried to open Outlook and Outlook couldn't access my .pst file. I went into Security and gave the Home User group full access. Problem solved.

Next, I found that I couldn't save to any of my Documents folders. I found that if I changed Security settings to full access on each individual folder, it would allow me to save, create new folders, etc. Now I'm wondering if it's possible to make this a more global change? Changing access to every stinkin file is pretty annoying and it seems logical that there should be a global setting to do this. (One more thing related to user issues: what's the use of being in an Admin group if you don't actually have Admin permissions to run things? The cmd menu won't allow me to do anything...)

    :)

    Windows10 - storage new documents

Hitting Save as in WordPad will direct to the folder where your most recent document that you created was saved.
Save as' path varies based on the settings of the application that you are using.

Let us know if you have other questions.

  3. File History in Win 10 doesn't let me change the folders it saves

I have set up File History in win 10 to be saved on an external drive. I only want it to save Documents and Downloads, so I REMOVE the other folders. Seems simple.

However when I look at the computer the next day, it has saved about six or more other folders, music, videos, etc as well. How do I get it to save only those I want it to save?

Question about saving to Documents and other folders

Posting my solution just in case anyone else needs to know how to fix this: Go to Windows Explorer, then C:\Users\Username (left hand side of the window). Right-click on Username, then go to Properties, Security, Home Users, Edit. Grant Full Control to the Home Users Group (or whatever is appropriate). It will then go through the entire folder & grant access to a bunch of things. Not everything, but the things you don't get access to, you probably don't want access to.

I guess no-one know for sure. I have the same problem. Might just go back to windows 8, at least it understands what an Administrator is
