Question about USB-connected printers/scanners and why they sometimes aren't available

I have a coworker who has a laptop connected to a docking station all Dell equipment. She oftentimes takes her laptop home to work from home. At both her office and at home, she has different USB-connected printers and scanners. This is a Windows 10 Pro laptop 21H1.To give an example of what happens: she'll be using Scanner A at work, go home for the weekend to use Scanner B at home, then come back in to use Scanner A.While under Settings > Printers and Scanners it will say "Connected to USB 3.0", if we were to "Manage..." the scanner, Windows will return with an error saying "Probl

Connect USB Scanner and USB Printer via WiFi for home PC's

    Hello All !

I am seeking for your advice in order to setup a configuration at home so that I could provide the ability to
    • print on my old Samsung CLP-300 USB printer (no Wifi feature), and
    • scan from my old Canon Lide 60 USB scanner (no wifi)
from the several Win10 computers I have at home -- those are not easily physically connected to those devices but are on Wifi.

I was thinking on some Rasberry Pi device to connect both printer and scanner to, and make them available via its Wifi to the PC's I have at home. Is that a crazy idea or has it a reasonable chance to work ? The aspect that scares me off quite a bit is the setup of these peripherals on the RasPi especially as some tailored Linux (Raspbian ?) is recommended and I seriously doubt to be able to find the adequate Linux drivers for my rather old peripherals... And I didn't buy the RasPi yet !

I could also use an old Win7 laptop as shared device I guess, but that would require managing that PC, power on/off, etc.

    Thanks for your advice !

  3. Windows 10 recognizes my printer+scanner only as a printer.

    Hello,

Another method you may try is to uninstall and reinstall the printer. The following are the steps:

    Remove your printer

    • Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners.
    • Under Printers & scanners, find the printer, select it, and then select Remove device.

Install or add a local printer

    • Select the Start button, then select Settings > Devices > Printers and Scanners.
    • Under Printers & Scanners, see if your printer is installed.
    • If you don’t see your device, select Add a printer or scanner. Wait for it to find available printers, choose the one you want, and then select Add device.

On the other hand, we suggest also that you reach out the manufacturer of your printer/scanner for the driver availability or work around.

    Regards.

  4. Question about USB-connected printers/scanners and why they sometimes aren't available

    Printer Scanner

    Hi TT,

As shown on the screen shots shown before, the printer is listed in devices, but doesnt appear with the Windows 10 printers and scanners section.

However, the printer does appear to be working at the moment, so I will let it be at that, just strange it should show on one listing but not the other.

    Thanks for your input.
