Windows 10: Question about using "sfc" command

I've noticed several comments about using "sfc". When entering the command prompt, you are in the Windows\system32 directory. Do you run "sfc" from there or do you close that directory and run from the C: prompt?

1-hey ..! i did a format to my nokia n97 few days ago .. before i did the format i had the problem that sometimes when i go to photos its says " memory full close some applicartions ..." and now i have it again ! so i just wanna know how to
solve this problem its really annoying !



2- my best music kind is trance ,, but i dont enjoy listening trance on my n97 coz music does'nt sound good for this kind of music .. so i want to know if there is a way to make n97 music sounds like x6 or even 5800 ( i guess ) .. through some
application or through equalizer or whatever ! i dont wanna get another phone

Yes, an administrative command prompt window will open at C:\WINDOWS\system32> and that's where you need to run it.

 

Simric´s advice will work, but I prefer PowerShell.

Enter Task Manager and select File''Start New Task. Type powershell into the box that appears, and check the box giving you Admin Privileges. You have to wait several seconds for PowerShell to open. When it does, type sfc /scannow into the command line. It will take about an hour and a half to scan your computer for corrupted files.

 

sfc can be run from any directory, as long as you're in the admin (elevated privilege) command environment, since c:\windowsystem32 is where sfc.exe resides and that folder is part of the default "path" environment variable. Yeah.... you can run sfc from admin command prompt and it MIGHT take 7 minutes like mine did or run it from powershell and it MIGHT take about 90 minutes like it did for Vince Massi. But, all differing variables which haven't been identified aside, as MS says in the sfc dialog: "This process will take some time."
