question destination folders for hdd on new computer?

    hello
hope this the the right spot for this question:
new computer 2 drives ssd, and hdd i am new to this concept
wondering how to set up folders for the hdd to accept files as it is virtually blank. everything is on the ssd 250gb.

i would like to save space on ssd for music recordings etc so i would like to put itunes, and other games i may play once a while, and other not necessary programs on the hdd.

so do i go about that, do i need to create destination folders for those? any parameters as to what they can and cannot be named?

    thank you in advance

    :)

  2. Changing the primary drive.

Hey guys. I just got a new computer with a 125 gb SSD which has the OS installed on it. I also have a 2 TB HDD drive for space. What I am trying to do is keep the SSD separate and download all of my apps and data to the HDD drive.

I've already gone to system settings, storage, more storage settings (Change where new content is saved) and changed the destination to the 2 TB HDD drive. Whenever I download an app such as steam or iTunes the installation software goes to the smaller
SSD and attempts to place the actual app on the drive as well which isn't my intention. Accidentally filled it up twice. Seems from what I've read these settings only affect windows store apps.

When I install do I have to manually change the destination to the HDD drive? Do I need to create a separate apps folder within that drive to place apps such as iTunes or steam. Also within the same realm of questioning such as music would I just create
a new folder and label it music in the HDD drive so that I have a destination for my music library?

    Any help is appreciated guys.

  3. Windows 10 - Desktop icons disappeared - I may have hit something that is causing my problem

    Hi LarryKizziah

Sometimes I face a similar issue during copying backups. It turns out that the original file is located deep into the folder tree, and/or probably with a long name. Hence when I copy/backup into a subfolder in another HDD, sometimes the folder structure
in the destination HDD adds more characters into the total (Folder+filename) length of the copied file and thus the copy fails.

If this is the case, solution is to shorten the (Folder+filename) string, by -may be- shortening the filename, otherwise you need to reduce the tree depth.

If you shorten the filename and could copy to destination, you can rename it back to the original long name, it should work.

    Hope this helps.

question destination folders for hdd on new computer?

    Your strategy is wrong.

Use ssd for OS+programs, use hdd for data as programs get best benefit on sdd, data does not make any difference.

To create folders on hdd, simply use file explorer in normal way.
