Question: Is Win 10 Optimized for Devices With 1GB RAM?

I am sure you can get Windows 10 to run with 1 GB of RAM, but it doesn't mean you should.

Unless you enjoy self-flagellation, running Windows 10 on a more optimal system would be preferable.

The tablet can be purchased with up to 4GB of RAM, but the RAM is soldered to the main board. So, like a Mac, you need to purchase it with the amount of ram you need right at the start, as you don't have the option to upgrade it later.

  3. For devices like that CleanMem Free is mandatory, just like CCleaner for any Windows.

  4. Question: Is Win 10 Optimized for Devices With 1GB RAM?

Depending on what you want to do with it, Win 10 works perfectly on a tablet with 1GB of RAM

If you want to run lots of Win32 style apps at the same time then you will have issues, but using the store based apps mainly then its a non issue

I use mine mainly with store apps (only win 32 are ms office) and it has no issues at all, the way the store apps are designed to suspend in the background is ideal for these types of devices

CleanMemem is neither necessary nor desirable. Windows 10 has excellent memory management and will not benefit from such programs. With limited memory it is even more important that Windows memory manager be allowed to operate without interference.

Unlike many other competing products CleanMem is relatively harmless but still not beneficial. Any perceived benefits are due to the placebo effect.

I do understand how CleanMem works, and in greater detail than provided on the website.

  6. I've decided I will use Win 8.1 on this tablet. I have an OTG cable and Dell support sent me a reinstall thumbdrive with the Win 8.1 32bit Dell image.

  7. Really? One thing I will say for Windows 10 is that it ran surprisingly brisk when I tested it on an old HP Pentium IV system with 1 GB of RAM.

  8. Question: Is Win 10 Optimized for Devices With 1GB RAM?

Thank you all for your replies. Comparing Win 10 on my Venue 11 Pro with 4gb RAM to this tablet, to my Precision laptop, work desktop, etc, I've resolved to regress to Win 8.1 and avoid 10 on this Venue 8 Pro (3845).

    Thanks again!

  10. And yet several several people solved their problems (some serious) on tenforums thanks to Cleanmem.

Really? I thought these utilities were snakeoil - it is certainly what Mark Russinovitch is saying here in The Memory-Optimization Hoax

  12. U must be a Win 10 newbie or just uninformed as to why we have Win 10 in the first place ☻

W10 x86 *can run * on 1 GB but it won't run as fast as it could but it should be faster than 8.1 at 1 GB with the improved hdd caching and new ram page file compression and more efficient video stack ,audio stack, memory and process management and fast indexing not present in Windows 8.1 . ☻

OP if you decide to stay on win 10 on your tablet maybe clean out your Old Windows files using diskclean your OLD OS is stored in there for ~ 30 days.... that will free up some drive space and maybe speed up things a bit also check your start menu in task man and disable any unnecessary startup apps that may be running unnecessary background processes . FWIW Windows 10 likes breathing room and can slow down a lot when a drive gets 75 -80% full depending on the size of the drive .

I have 3 PC's here on Win 10 RTM and have been on the test builds on this dual boot machine since Feb. 15.

FWIW you *can get the windows 8.1 file out of your old windows file folder and convert it to an .ISO or bootable USB media before you clean out the OLD windows file ,if not Windows 10 will do that in about 4 weeks anyway .

  13. Question: Is Win 10 Optimized for Devices With 1GB RAM?

    +1

FWIW clean men claims it doesn't push things to the page file in case you don't know Windows 10 specifically keeps a new compressed ram page file in your physical ram before it writes to the hdd page file which sould only happen in w 10 if you max out the ram and by then your system would be crawling anyway and you should be closing things .

IOW cleanmem is likely a useless tool especially in Windows 10 like most of that stuff .
Windows 10 already has improved memory and resource management that eliminates the need for 3rd party 'helpers' .

SRSLY If you want to clean out your ram ( volatile memory ) just cold boot your PC once in awhile ☻

  15. I've been thinking about testing that out on an old retired P4 3.0 Ghz box with XP x86 and 4 GB ram in my storage building out back just to see how it compares to XP on that thing .
