  1. Questions about appdata and windowsapp folders.

    Hello everyone!

My SSD is basically full already and its because of these two folders. Windowsapps and Appdata. Can someone help me with them. I was just wondering if anyone knows if there's a way to condense the size or even to move my appdata to another drive? I've looked into it slightly and people say not to do it because it slows it down and a bunch of other stuff.

So if I can't do that, can someone help me with the windowsapps folder. I've tried taking ownership of the folder but when I go to delete the subfolders it says "you do not have ownership" FROM MY OWN USER. It's annoying because I have stuff like sunset overdrive which I don't even have anymore.

Another thing, because I have kept my old hard drive as a secondary hard drive. I still have my old appdata folder on my secondary hard drive. Am I safe to delete that folder? Or are some files still using it?

    Thanks for your guys help.

    Hi Jaden,

Thank you posting your query in Microsoft Community.

We would be glad to help you with the issue you are facing today. I understand the difficulty with the problem.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps.

    • Write in the search box the following: “%appdata%” .
    • After the search is finished left click or tap on the folder that the search feature found.
    • If it takes you to the following path: “C:\Users\The user that you are logged in with\AppData\Roaming”.
    • It means that your folders are still there but they are hidden.
    • Click on “View”.
    • Check the box “Hidden items”

WindowsApps folder says permissions are corrupted and need to be deleted, is this normal or critical?

According to your description, I suggest you try the following steps:

    1. Navigate to the location C:\Program Files.
    2. Right-click on the WindowsApps folder, and select Properties.
    3. Turn to Security tab and click on Advanced.
    4. Click on Change and then type Users in Enter the object name to select area.
    5. Click on OK, then click Apply > OK. You can also add the TrustedInstaller to the users list and check if it takes effect.

However, you might be still not able to access the files. The workaround is to go inside the C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\, and repeat the same way with the Microsoft.WindowsStore* folders.
