    1. If Stages 1, 2, and 3 give no errors or fix all the errors detected, can we assume that files are OK.2. I assume that faulty sectors are removed by Stage 4 and 5? If some sectors used by files are faulty, how those files can be restored?3. What EAT stands for?4. I backed up the System Image and restored from that backup. Then the restored C partition was faulty as the original C partiton was faulty. Then I fixed the C partition by instlalling the disk on another computer although the drive letter was automatically changed from C. We can find the drive letter automatically assinged by

    chkdsk c: /F

It might be an error on the drive. We suggests that you follow the troubleshooting steps below:

    • Run Disk Cleanup utility to clear your junk files.
    • Open an elevated CMD type sfc /scannow and hit Enter to run the System File Checker.
    • Once the scan is completed, restart your computer. Remember to exit ChkDsk
      during boot.
    • Next, again open CMD as admin type
      Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
and hit Enter to repair the Windows image.
    • Now see if ChkDsk able to complete the scan.

Note: Before doing the steps, make sure you save a back up of your files.

Let us know how it goes.

    CHKDSK messed up

    Continue with zbook's excellent instructions.

But if you want to try and get into the BIOS again just to check:
    From your product's website:
Opening the Startup Menu during system startup on computers

Follow these steps to open the Startup menu when the computer is powered off.

    1. Turn on the computer.
    2. Immediately press the Escape key repeatedly, about once every second, until the Startup Menu opens.

    You should get this option:

Short question about chkdsk, to support engineer's last answer

    Hi,

Chkdsk verifies the file system integrity of a volume and fixes logical file system errors. Also please be informed that your understanding of check disk is correct.

Please follow the steps below to run check disk.

    • Press Windows key + X and select
      Command Prompt (Admin).

    • Type the below commands.

      chkdsk [drive letter]: /f /r
    Example: chkdsk C: /f /r

Note: Depending upon the size of your hard disk, this may take several minutes. For best results, don't use your computer for any other tasks while it's checking for errors.

Disclaimer: While performing chkdsk on the hard drive if any bad sectors are found on the hard drive when chkdsk tries to repair that sector if any data available on that might be lost.

Hope this helps. Please respond if you have any further related query.
