Windows 10: Questions regarding updating Windows 10 Pro 1607 to latest update

Hey friends. I have purposefully kept my windows 10 installation on the 1607 anniversary for a variety of stability reasons. Due to some issues with software compatibility, I am feeling obligated to take the plunge to the latest version.

A few google searches have proven fruitless and so I bring my questions here: 1) Do I need to follow an update path? Would it be necessary for me to go from 1607 -> 1703 -> 1709 -> 1803 etc. all the way to the newest version?

2) I see there is a "Feature update to Windows 10, version 1903" currently available via windows update. Is this a safe avenue or would it behoove me to step away from windows update and do so manually?

Win 10 1607 update

Installed the update manually at the the moment everything is bueno.
It seems that Microsoft has a big problem in there update department windows 7 update has problems win 8 update has problems. Windows 10 update is so-so.

 

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.

 

Win 10 1607 update

pretty much what i did with two out my seven machines.. five took the upgrade okay two kept getting "stuck" .. he he

and yep its weird as regards having to use ie11 to use the windows update catalogue.. *Smile
