Windows 10: Quick access keeps on resetting to default. I've read the previous threads starting in...

Greetings.


As stated above, Quick Access keeps resetting to default. I rely on Quick Access a fair bit so this is becoming tedious. It only started happening since the last Windows 10 update.


I followed this thread from 2018:

I downloaded and ran the Norton tool even though I haven't installed any Norton products so this was probably useless.

I couldn't download the McAfee tool as the link doesn't work. This one I was slightly more hopeful for as I do use McAfee's True Key and whilst I wouldn't want to lose that functionality and have used it for years before this started happening, it still seemed more apropos than the Norton one.


When you then go on to read the responses, the main thrust of the issue seems to be from factory installations with bloatware, etc. I would never leave a factory installation. I'm a former I.T. fella and prefer a clean install every time. That is what this is.


I even have a shortcut to restore my Quick Access via a registry tweak but this doesn't work.


Why is this still happening to people all these years later?
Is there an actual fix yet which doesn't relate to factory-installed machines?

Remove items from Quick access.

I would suggest you to follow the below steps.

• Right click on the file or folder.
• Select the option “unpin from the quick access”

To pin items to an item already on the quick access bar.

Follow the below steps.

I would suggest you to create folder in the desktop screen & place all the files or folder which need to pin to the quick access.

• Open the quick access.
• Select the Desktop option.
• Right click on the folder & select the option “pin to quick access”

That gives this solution:

You might be experiencing the issue with Quick Access due to corruption among data which your system stores for frequent folders record. In this case, we suggest resetting the data to resolve the issue. You may refer to the steps below:

1. Right-click on the Start menu and select Command Prompt (Admin).
2. Type the following command and press Enter: del /F /Q %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\AutomaticDestinations
3. Close Command Prompt and reboot your system.

I browsed to this folder and it's already empty.

C:\Users\Default\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Recent
