    Quick Assist Problem

I would be obliged if someone could provide an answer to this problem. I use a laptop running on Windows 10 Home Edition. My daughter, who lives many miles from me, has a laptop running on Windows 10 Pro edition. I have used Quick Assist a couple of times to help her and on both occasions Quick Assist worked fine.

My wife has a desktop PC running on Windows 10 Home Edition.. Her PC and my laptop are in the same room and we both connect by Wi-Fi to the router. Just for interest I tried running Quick Assist between our two computers. The connection set up OK but dropped out after a couple of minutes each time I tried. Can anyone suggest why this should happen? Clearly, it is of no consequence in these circumstances but I am very interested to know what is going wrong.

    :)

    Quick Assist

    Thanks for the suggestion

I can see that solution would be helpful in some cases but we need two techos, with differing skills, to manipulate the person's PC, possibly at the same time. That third person has zero computing skills.

    Quick Assist

I have recently discovered and used Quick Assist. It proved very successful.

Now I have a situation where it would be beneficial to have two people with different skills/knowledge and from different geographical locations to be online at the same time to help a third party to solve a complicated issue. Hence my question, is there
    a way to have a three-way conversation?

    Any guidance is appreciated

    Quick Assist Problem

I can't find any information about what protocols Quick Assist uses, so it could be any of a number of protocol related things but there's no telling right now. I may fire up Wireshark later on and see what it can show me. I would suggest making sure you've got a homegroup set up and have enrolled both machines therein. This could help. If QA is based on IPv6, there could be some router issues involved. Hopefully, somebody else in the community knows more than I do. Anybody?

From what I can see running QA on my LAN between two machines on the same switch, all communications are IPv4 TCP transport based, primarily through secure HTTP (https). I'm thinking that checking to make sure both machines on a PRIVATE network and members of the same homegroup (that is the case here) should do the trick if you don't already meet those criteria. If you do, let me know and I'll dig deeper with Wireshark later today. I used the excellent SysInternals TCPview utility to show me this about QA:

Hello Ed, As a matter of fact both my wife's PC and my laptop are in a HomeGroup, though we do not use it other than to share a printer. Ed, please don't spend too much of your time on my query as I am sure you have much more interesting problems to get your teeth into. I did read somewhere that Quick Assist will only work if one of the computers runs on Window's 10 Pro and I wondered if this might be the reason why the connection with my wife's PC drops out after a short time interval. However if this were the case I guess it would be more likely that the Quick Assist connection would not be established in the first place. I then began to wonder if the fact that both computers use the same router may be the reason for problem. These were the thoughts of a computer "dummy". As I tried to convey, I am not concerned that Quick Assist seems not to be fully function in this particular circumstance except in so far it may be be indicative of a deeper problem.
