Windows 10: Quick change audio output device is missing from taskbar

Hi all,


My audio output device switcher is missing from my taskbar, normally when you click on the Speaker icon on the right-hand side taskbar should showing as below but now is missing this "Select output device" option.


I did try to fix this problem by:

- update the all audio driver

- reset the explorer.exe

- update my windows 10

Still NOT working :-


Is anyone able to help?

No Audio Output Device is Installed

Hi,

You will need to select Windows 8 from the drop down list while installing the driver in compatibility mode.

I would suggest you to try setting the speaker as default audio output by following the steps below and check if it helps.

1. Right click on the sound icon on the right bottom corner of the taskbar.

2. Select "playback devices".

3. If "speaker" is not set as the default device, highlight it and click "set as default".

5. Save the changes.

Let us know the result.

 

Why can't I change audio output when cast to device?

Thanks for the quick response. I checked my driver and it is the latest version. I think i missed one description here. In my case, I am tring to watch video on TV and expect audio output from my native speaker. However the audio output icon in playback
device shows the default audio output is my native speaker but the audio is actually output from my TV. Thus I can't do any audio output in playback devices. Any idea how can make it correct?

My surface pro seven suddenly does not have sound. It says there is no audio output driver. I talked to someone at microsoft and they had me uninstall and reinstall updates. I cannot reinstall an audio driver because the device manager list of devices does
not even show sound as an option anymore. The rep I talked to finally said he had no more suggestions.

I am not sure how to fix this or why it happened.
