  1. Quick question about overall Windows 10's perception

I do a lot of independent IT work and have done so for many years. From that time, I've done so many installs and deployments of Windows 7, 8, and 8.1 and now 10. But the thing I'm wondering, how is everyone's general perception towards 10?

I only ask this because in the first time in Windows history, this is a FREE upgrade for the qualified PCs running 7 or 8.1 for less than a year and yet, I've seen almost more hesitation towards 10 than I have with Windows 8 or 8.1. I don't know if it's the FUD around the privacy concerns or ease of use or what?

On a side note, someone recently told me that they think 10 is hard to use. This was coming from someone who used Windows 8 and currently on 8.1, by far the most critiqued version for poor ease of use. I was quite shocked.

Also, on a different note, the number of people I've come across that know about Cortana and even want to use Cortana especially on their iphones or androids has been pleasantly surprising. Even some that are all apple devices including mac users would like to have Cortana over Siri even though they don't use Siri.

Windows 10 has so far been a pretty interesting release thus far. It's free, it's awesome, it's continually being tweaked and improved, but still controversial and many people are resisting the upgrade incredibly hardcore. And on the Windows Phone side, 10 has been received both positively and negatively for different reasons. It's crazy.

    :)

  2. Maps download service

    This is really slow...

I really dont understand why this is so slow and why this is not a fast and easy download.

This is such a basic service that it should be quick.

(quick downloads are associated with quick devices)

Its the little things... easy and quick

  3. Windows 10 S

    Hi,

I have two quick questions about Windows 10 S. Does the bios that comes with Windows 10 S laptops allow booting from a USB? Is there any size difference between Windows 10 Pro and Windows 10 S regarding the storage the operating system requires?

    Thanks

Quick question about overall Windows 10's perception

My experience with 10 has been positive. With that said, I only just upgraded my work machine to it this past week. Forced to upgrade first, then clean installed as I wanted to start fresh. A few issues, mostly with older software needing the .NET framework 3.5.

I don't use Cortana. I still use a third party start menu replacement. My favorite feature is stuff in command prompt. Cut and paste, resizing, etc.

Don't care for lack of control of Windows Update. It's ok, as I just load everything anyway, but I miss fact that I cannot see size of my download.

  5. I've had positive reactions to 10 AFTER the install. Before, there has been hesitation and the questions of, "Is it really worth the time and effort?" Although I'm quite glad I don't have to sit down with people for almost half and hour to give them the guided tour of new things like 8.1. So far it's been mostly all about Cortana's features and Start Screen customizing.

I have just given people the usb installer key at work and have let them run the upgrade. That's a first.

  7. My biggest concern with the whole upgrade process is the fact that there are installs of Windows 7 from 2009 that aren't probably in good shape and some yuck will spill over to 10. I even recently had to pull out an old image of 7 I have just to do a clean install first because the person was iffy if they'd like 10 or not. They loved it, but geez that was annoying to do. That system had so much Sony bloatware and .dll faults that doing an upgrade to 10 like that just wasn't going to cut it for me. Thank God Microsoft changed the activation process of not needing to upgrade first, THEN clean install.
