Windows 10: QuickBooks Company File Error After Windows 11 Update 24H2

After recently updating my computer to Windows 11 and updating everything, when I updated to the 24H2 update, I encountered an issue with QuickBooks: the error message "Error Code: Company file not found." Once the update was completed, QuickBooks could not locate my company file from our server, rendering the software unusable for my accounting needs. However, I discovered that when I uninstalled the 24H2 update, QuickBooks functioned perfectly, and I could access my company file without any problems. This leads me to wonder what might be causing this conflict between the Windows update and Q

Quickbooks company files disappeared with update

When I updated to Windows 10, my company files for QuickBooks 11 were filed somewhere I am unable to access. I get a message telling me that they have been moved but file explorer cant find. QuickBooks is NO help, they simply say I need to update to
version 2015 which I refuse to do. The program still works, I just need my checking information back! Anyone know of a solution?

 

QuickBooks crash while opening data file

As you have mentioned that after Windows and QuickBooks update whenever you open a data file in QuickBooks, it crashes. We would like to know if any other programs are crashing apart from QuickBooks.



I suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:



Method 1: Repair QuickBooks



I suggest you to try repairing QuickBooks and then open data file in it. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

1. Press Windows key + R, to open
   Run dialog box.
   
2. Type appwiz.cpl and click on
   OK.
   
3. Look for QuickBooks application from the list, right click on it and select
   Repair.
   
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair process.
   

If repairing QuickBooks didn’t fix the issue, please refer Method 2.



Method 2: Open Sample data file



You can try opening a Sample data file in QuickBooks and check if QuickBooks crash. If QuickBooks didn’t crash while opening Sample data file, I suspect that the data file that you are trying to open is causing the crash. In this case, I suggest you
to contact the
QuickBooks support team.

Windows does not remember the last place I saved quickbooks files.

I thought it was unusual as well, but documented by QB.

If you see Error -6123,0 while restoring your company file

Step 1: Remove special characters from the file name

Make sure your backup company file name:

• Is 30 characters or less
• Doesn't have any special characters or spaces

Step 2: Restore your company file

If you’re restoring your company file from a backup (.qbb):

• Move the backup file to your local hard drive. Don’t open them from an online storage folder or a removable drive.
• Follow the steps to restore your company file from a backup.
