Quickbooks is crashing after installing recent Microsoft Windows 11 updates

In the past couple of weeks, Quickbooks is crashing doing various functions after Windows Updates were installed. I am running Windows 11 Home 23H2 under the most recent version of Parallels. Intuit verified that my company files are good and then working with Parallels we have determined that either KB5036620 or KB5033055 are causing a conflict with Quickbooks Premier. I was told by Intuit to inform Microsoft support to inform them of this conflict, as it is not unusual that a Microsoft Windows Update might cause problems and needs to be fixed in future updates.Who do I need to contact to

    :)

QuickBooks crash while opening data file

    Hi,

Thank you for writing to Microsoft Community Forums.

As you have mentioned that after Windows and QuickBooks update whenever you open a data file in QuickBooks, it crashes. We would like to know if any other programs are crashing apart from QuickBooks.

I suggest you to refer the troubleshooting steps mentioned below:

    Method 1: Repair QuickBooks

I suggest you to try repairing QuickBooks and then open data file in it. Please follow the steps mentioned below:

    1. Press Windows key + R, to open
      Run
      dialog box.
    2. Type appwiz.cpl and click on
      OK
      .
    3. Look for QuickBooks application from the list, right click on it and select
      Repair.
    4. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the repair process.

If repairing QuickBooks didn’t fix the issue, please refer Method 2.

Method 2: Open Sample data file

You can try opening a Sample data file in QuickBooks and check if QuickBooks crash. If QuickBooks didn’t crash while opening Sample data file, I suspect that the data file that you are trying to open is causing the crash. In this case, I suggest you
    to contact the
    QuickBooks support
    team.

  3. Quickbooks won't open after Windows 11 Update

    Hi markwilliam8506,

QuickBooks is a featureful bookkeeping software that makes business accounting easy for its users. Quickbooks won't open after Windows 11 Update randomly develops on a system and troubles users while launching the error. In case your QB fails to open or crashes randomly, read this blog till the end to figure out why this happens and the techniques to prevent it in the future.

The circumstances under which QuickBooks will not open or crash randomly

You can sometimes face problems launching QB due to internal glitches in the software or external PC factors. Some conditions on your system that interrupt QB launch or cause it to crash randomly while running are discussed below-

    • QuickBooks cannot run the QBWUSER.ini file because it is damaged or forbidden due to lack of folder permissions.
    • QuickBooks malfunctions and crashes instantly when it fails to access its program files or use the system resources as per requirement.
    • You haven’t downloaded the latest updates in QuickBooks, which leads to compatibility issues when the software integrates with the Windows applications.

The actions you must take if QuickBooks won’t open on your PC

Your business will be affected, and you might experience problems recording the transactions if QuickBooks doesn’t start on your PC. The following techniques are valuable to counter the problem and prevent issues during QB launch-

Method 1- Relaunch QuickBooks after repairing/recreating the QBWUSER.ini file

QuickBooks runs the QBWUSER.ini file during its launch to verify the identity of the user trying to access the financial data. The program file contains info about all the user accounts allowed to access the QB data and is crucial for the smooth functioning of the software. You must recreate the QBWUSER.ini file to ensure it doesn’t cause problems when the software starts on your computer. Use these steps to repair the QB program file-

    1. Launch the file explorer and click the View option in the toolbar at the top.
    2. Mark the Hidden items checkbox with a single tap and move to C: Documents and Settings/AllUsers/ApplicationData/Intuit/QuickBooks.
    3. Right-click the QBWUSER.ini file in the location and select the Rename option.
    4. Type ‘.old’ at the file name’s end as an extension and save it as ‘QBWUSER.ini.old’ on your system.
    5. Relaunch QuickBooks.
If your QB fails to start after recreating the damaged program files, move to the next solution.

Method 2- Grant admin rights to QuickBooks to prevent crashes during its launch

QuickBooks can also face problems while launching if it fails to access its program files or use the required system resources. You need to grant admin rights to QuickBooks to allow it special access to system data and prevent it from Windows Firewall restrictions. Use these steps-

    1. Go to the QB folder location on your system and right-click on the software’s launch icon (QuickBooks.exe).
    2. Click the Run as Administrator option and avoid clicking continuously on the software’s launch icon (Give it appropriate time to launch).

    Conclusion

This blog defines the causes of Quickbooks won't open after Windows 11 Update error that randomly develops on your computer. The must-use techniques to prevent issues during QB launch are also discussed in the blog, and we hope you use them on your system to run QB flawlessly.
