Windows 10: Quicken 2000 cannot initialize printer.

Everything worked perfectly until Windows updated something on 1/15/20 and I have not been able to print in Quicken since then.

Got Quicken 2000 to print. I noticed that my printer was not on the printer list in the controls panel. It turns out that the printer was not connected. This was not expected since I routinely move my computer to another residence and Windows "remembers"
both printers.

Once I connected the printer to a USB port on my computer, the printer appeared on the list and the Quicken print menu worked as usual. Looks like after the latest Windows 10 update (9/22) one has to make sure an actual printer is connected and recognized
before Quicken 2000 (and perhaps other versions) will do anything in the print menu.

 

Quicken 2000 on Windows 10

I got my Quicken Deluxe 2000 (UK version) to work with Windows 10.

Here's what I did.

• Put the Windows 2000 installation disc into your cd drive,
• Use file explorer to browse to that drive, (probably drive d),
• Right click on drive D, select open, . You will now see folders and files on the quicken disc.
  
• Double click on the win95 folder, that will now show you files within the win95 folder.
  
  In that Win95 folder, your will see several setup files, look for the setup file, the file that says application beside it, double click it and it installed Quicken as normal.
  

I restored my accounts data from a back up file successfully. The only issue I can see is similar to running Quicken 2000 in windows 7 xp mode, the home page doesn't load properly. However the accounts listings, register, and all other functions appear fully
operational.

This successful installation was on a Dell 64bit based laptop, that originated as a Windows 7 home edition. Win 7 Home would not run Quicken at all, so I'm amazed that the free Windows 10 upgrade does allow Quicken to run.

Not sure why you can't print to "Microsoft Print to PDF", but quicken stores its available printer information in the file "WPR.DAT" which should be in the Quicken directory/folder. To update the list of available printers backup your Quicken directory
then rename WPR.DAT to something else such as "WPR.OLD" then rerun Quicken. The file WPR.DAT should be regenerated and all available system printers should become available to the program.
