    Yesterday I discovered that the Reconcile Account function in Quicken 2015 and 2016 was not working correctly. Clicking any line item in either the "Payment and Checks" or "Deposits" did not trigger an update of the totals at the bottom of these two columns nor did it trigger an update in the "Differences" amount in the lower right hand corner.

    I spent several hours with Quicken technical support this morning and after trying al the normal thing like updating and the infamous “Mondo Patch” with no success. The support person has forwarded this issue to their higher level support staff to be studied. Hopefully the next Quicken patch will include a resolution. FYI, I’ve seen chatter about this issue for some users going back to 2014.

    Meanwhile there are two work arounds. Sometimes Method 1 works but not always. Method 2 always works.

    Method 1: When the reconciliation window opens with all of your transactions, click "Mark All' and then click "Unmark All." Thereafter as you check each item the total should update but if not then use Method 2.

    Method 2: After you have checked off one or more items you can force an updating of the totals by clicking on "Balances" and then on "OK" bringing you back to the reconcile screen with updated totals. Sometimes you only have to do those once but sometimes you'll need to do this each time you want to update the totals – very annoying.

    This began happening to me sometime in mid to late October. I also noticed that it began after I had reconciled one months transaction and then moved on to another reconciliation. I suspect that one of the many Win10 updates somehow broke the reconcile function in Quicken.

  2. Windows 10: Can't access the internet for Quicken registration process

    here's what I did. At the first appearance of the registration window, I selected FILE in the upper left hand corner and selected/loaded my archived 2015/2016 quicken file - the last file used prior to creating EOY files and before installing quicken 2016.
    The program and file opened no problems. I then saved this file under a new name (eg. Checking2016xxx). I then deleted all 2015 records, except any transactions which had not been reconciled and the end-of-year balance. I then downloaded my outstanding 2016
    bank transactions reconciled my account from the last time prior to installing quicken 2016 and saved the file. Since I didn't create my EOY file until March, I only had 3 months of reconciliation to do. I then moved this file to my 2016 financial folder.
    Yes...this was a little extra work, but quicken 2016 works perfectly now including printing checks.

    I hope this solution will help the community.

    Upgrade to a version of Quicken that is supported on Windows 10: Quicken 2015 and 2016.

    FYI, the R4 Update that came out a few days ago has resolved this issue.
