Qustion: Norton 2016 Vs. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

    Hello.

I got a lifetime sub. for Malwarebytes Anti-Malware (MBAM) and i also have a sub. for Norton 2016.

Now, can i get rid of Norton and only use MBAM and still be completely safe from viruses? (as safe as i can be with a Anti Virus).

On Malwarebytes web page they state that they protect against "worms, Trojans, rogues, spyware, bots, and more",
    but what about viruses?

The problem is that Norton now says that it is incompatible with MBAM and that i need to uninstall it if i want Norton to function properly.

    :)

  2. Is AVG and spyhunter 4 safe programs to use?

    AVG yes. SpyHunter no.

SpyHunter is not a recommended program here. Please have a look at this.

I recommend supplementing any security program you choose with these freeware tools and doing an occasional scan.

  3. Qustion: Norton 2016 Vs. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware

    Hi:

No, not with the current release version of MBAM, version 2.2.1.1043.
As explained here, MBAM v2 is NOT an anti-virus.
It is intended to run alongside a real-time AV to provide complementary, layered protection against different types of threats often missed by AVs.

Does Malwarebytes Anti-Malware replace antivirus software?

Malwarebytes Malwarebytes 3.0 is currently in public BETA testing.
That version is being marketed as an "AV replacement".
However, it is an unstable beta product that should not be run in a production environment.
And it's not quite clear whether or not version 3 really *is* a full-fledged AV suitable for use alone.

AFAIK there are currently no consistent compatibility problems between MBAM v2 and the major 3rd-party AVs (I run paid versions of 2 different AVs on my 3 boxes).
Having said that, there are isolated reports cropping up at the Malwarebytes support forum of some users running into compatibility problems even with the current version (v2) and with their AVs.
I have no idea what's going on with that.
There ought NOT to be issues between MBAM v2 and any of the major AVs.
Perhaps the AV vendors are starting to respond to the claims that Malwarebytes Malwarebytes 3.0 is an "AV replacement" and they are now treating even version 2 as a competitor, not a complementary product?

In any event, for the time being, I do not suggest removing Norton or running only with MBAM Premium.
MBAM version 2 is not an anti-virus and does not replace one.
If you are having issues with MBAM and Norton, I suggest setting mutual exclusions between them.
(Let us know if you need help with that.)

If that does not resolve your issue, then I suggest reporting the problem in the Malwarebytes forum, where the QA team and developers can assist you.

    MM

  5. Hi:

    You are most welcome, @Bohauo.
    I'm glad I could help.

It has not been necessary for a long time to set mutual exclusions between MBAM 2 and AVs.
However, some users opt to do so pro-actively, in order to prevent potential issues.
It may be the case that the AV vendors are/will be changing their own programs in order to necessitate doing so once again.
If you would like help with that, please post back and we will explain how to do that.
If, on the other hand, MBAM 2.2.1.1043 is running fine alongside Norton, then you ought not to need to do so.

    Cheers,
    MM
