Windows 10: Radeon Adrenalin - 100% GPU usage Bug in Windows 10

Just curious here have you noticed on occasion with the latest drivers that your taskbar becomes unclickable for a few seconds every few days?

 

I've never kept the Adrenalin drivers installed for more than a few minutes because of the issues already discussed in this thread, so I can't say I've encountered any taskbar problems. Sorry I can't help further but I don't intend using the Adrenalin drivers until AMD fix the bug that's affecting me!

 

For anyone following this thread to save themselves the hassle of trying each new driver release themselves, I am sorry to report that Adrenalin 18.3.1 still does not fix this long-standing issue. Again, no mention of it in the release notes even though it's a widely reported issue.

 

Another day, another driver release: Adrenalin 18.3.2 offers no fix and still no acknowledgement of the bug in the release notes. The wait continues.

 

No change with Adrenalin 18.3.3 (dated 18 March).

If this bug is so hard to fix, perhaps AMD could consider a custom install option that doesn't include the problematic AMDDVR component at all. I realise that this would prevent Relive and the Game Overlay from working but at least the driver could be safely used by everyone still dealing with the 100% GPU usage bug.

 

Thanks for keeping at it, Wiggly1UK2000. I read each new thrilling installment with initial anticipation followed by an immediate letdown. Please: keep up the good work, though!

I plan to keep this thread updated for as long as necessary. It's good to know that it's of some benefit to others too so thanks very much for your feedback.

 

A new AMD Adrenalin driver package has just been released: 18.3.4 (dated March 23rd). After conducting the usual tests I am sorry to report that the 100% GPU usage bug still remains to be fixed...

Wich program do you use for CAM?
Here the CAM works fine with firefox.

Just register to tell that it seems to be a firefox/vp9 codec bug. Not AMD driver.
check -> GPU load stays at 100% : firefox

Other have reported that the bug occurs in other scenarios too (outside of Firefox). If it's purely a Firefox issue then it raises the question, why does the problem not occur when using the older AMD Crimson drivers?

I think AMD and Mozilla should be working together to solve the problem.

 

FF does send GPU usage higher but lowers down once shut off and never goes to 100%, here at least. One program I use to monitor security cameras shoots up GPU usage to 100% and doesn't go down when shut off.

 

You got a point. I did not try with older drivers. But one thing is for sure, the problem persists with firefox 59.0.2 and AMD driver 18.3.4.
