Rampant instances of corruption - Can’t identify cause or fix

This problem in particular has given me much grief over the last few months. The reliability of Windows has been rapidly declining, and I’ve been forced to perform 6 or 7 clean installs with a formatting of the primary partition each time. I don’t mind doing it; Onedrive makes storage and recovery of my precious data as easy as pie.

The problem is in the frequency of these corruptions. A common instance for it is that I will be prompted to check disk for errors randomly, and something random will break. On occasion, some .dll file for Steam. Or Discord will break entirely. I can reinstall it easily, and if that alone is the end of my problems, then I don’t mind doing it. The problems come in when something directly related to Windows fails. It could be the Microsoft Store and related apps which were basically impossible to fix after they are corrupted, to random files in my recycling bin, to something essential in system32, so Windows cannot boot properly. System restore has never been helpful to me, I pretty much have to abuse DISM in order to keep Windows alive.

I suspect a failing hard drive, but the system passes extensive self-tests. Another cause I suspect has something to do with a $i30 bug, possibly some bad shortcut somewhere in my Onedrive.

It’s not normal to learn that NTFS has corruptions that it isn’t fixing itself while you’re browsing Twitter or Youtube, or some other innocuous thing, yet here I am. I’d gladly copy and paste some error codes, but currently Windows has crashed, so the event viewer logs are not retrievable, and not formatting the primary partition before using it results in a speed that is comedically slow for my gaming laptop.

I’ve been dealing with this for months, and have tried to find solutions but to no avail. The only thing left I can think to try is not recover my data to determine if there really is a problem with Onedrive, and formatting the System and MSR partitions which I am afraid to do as I am unsure if they are safe.

Oh, and I’ll also have a bit of trouble installing some updates as soon as I boot into Windows. Not sure why this happens. Could the problem be boot-time or triggered by something? Whatever the case may be, I hope I can count on the community to help me find a solution. I don’t remember the specific error codes I get, but I’ll probably be able to recognize them if prompted, and I’ll do my best to make a record of what I usually see.

Oh, and as much as I’d like to use an in-place upgrade before total failure, it always takes 7 hours for me. One time it nearly finished before deciding to revert changes, and another I had a bluescreen immediately after when trying to update and run sfc at the same time. Maybe it was a bone-headed move, I don’t know, but I’m doing my best.

Thank you, and if I could have some assistance I’d really appreciate it.

    :)

In post 26 there were steps listed to fix the operating system corruption.
Are you able to follow them?
In post 29 was the suggested dism repair command.
