Quick scan takes hours to complete

What is going on with quick scan?

I ran it yesterday and it took all day to run.

Also is there a setting to run automatically.

It is set to run real-time so is a scheduled scan unnecessary?

    Windows Defender - Quick Scan

Windows defender no longer offers a quick scan option.

    My options are:

    • Scan
    • Advanced Scan
    • Full Scan
    • Custom Scan
    • Windows Defender Offline scan
Whichever option I check, the scan will need to run for hours to complete.

    Is a quick scan available?

How do I restore this feature?

How do I enable Windows Defender automatic Quick Scan in Windows 10

    Hi,

I'm afraid GreginMich's reply was not helpful. While I have disabled the full scan's in Task Scheduler, I still have the following problems:-

    • Automatic Mintenance is set for 15:00, but actually happens whenever it feels like it. No quick-scan occurs during scheduled maintenance, or at least it leaves no event message. e.g. Auto M. ran at 12:48 PM today, but the most recent quick scan finished
      at 9:34 this morning.
    • Quick scan happens at every logon, which is extremely irritating, because it monopolizes the disk drive(s).
    • Idle time detection is disabled (group policy setting), which is supposed to ensure that the scans run at the scheduled time, but doesn't I.e. they don't run at the scheduled time, which for quick-scans is 5:50 AM (group policy setting).

    Regards,
