Hello,I was having an issue where I couldn't empty or view my recycle bin and I found a forum that recommended using this command to fix the recycle bin, I figured it would be fine because my recycle bin is already messed up and the command specified the recycle bin so I figured it wouldn't touch the rest of my files. It seemed like my PC randomly shut off part way through but I am unsure if this was intended by the command or if it was cause by something else. After my PC restarted I only have some of the desktop icons I used to have and only 3 taskbar icons actually have an icon and work.I f

The recycle bin on c:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?

    Hi seseavey

It sounds like your Recycle Bin is Corrupt:

Open a Command Prompt window as administrator:

(Click your Start Button, type cmd, right click Command Prompt in the resulting list and choose 'Run as Administrator')

Paste the following command and hit Enter:

    rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

Close the Command Prompt window and restart your system

    When your system starts up:

Create a new text file on your desktop and delete it to recreate a new recycle bin on your C Drvie

    Recycle Bin is Empty

    Hi SB.Tiger

If none of the above are applicable to your system, then it is a complete mystery how your Recycle Bin became empty by itself . . .

Unless your Recycle Bin is corrupt, to check if that is the case, the following steps will fix a corrupt Recycle Bin, please Note, any data in the bin will be deleted:

Open a Command Prompt window as administrator:

(Click your Start Button, type cmd, right click Command Prompt in the resulting list and choose 'Run as Administrator')

Paste the following command and hit Enter:

    rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

Close the Command Prompt window and restart your system

    When your system starts up:

Create a new text file on your desktop and delete it to recreate a new recycle bin on your C Drive

Recycling bin possibly corrupted, running command "rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin" is taking forever

I am having trouble opening my recycle bin in Windows 10. Whenever I do the green loading bar appears and it takes forever and never finishes loading. I suspect it may be corrupted from other posts on this forum. Additionally, my C: drive seems to be continually running out of memory now even if I delete files and then do not download anything else. Strangely the drive that seems to be corrupted is on the D: drive though so not sure why this would effect C.

I have taken the following 3 steps:

    1. Run rd /s /q D:\$Recycle.bin as system administrator

When I run this command it takes forever and opens a file explorer window for the recycling bin where the green line continues to load with seemingly no progress.

    2. Manually delete the $Recycle.bin folder from D drive by making system files visible

This has a similar issue where a window pops up saying it is discovering files in the recycle bin and goes on for an extremely long time with no end it sight.

    3. Run Disk clean up

This shows that there is 23 Gb of memory taken up by the recycle bin. When I select to delete the file it goes to a window with a progress bar and then does not move.

Please let me know why these commands don't seem to be working and if you have any thoughts if the corrupted recycling bin could somehow be effecting the C: storage problem. Thanks.
