  1. Random 100% usage and recurrent freezes on Windows 10

Good day/night to all of you, I will try to make this as short as possible, but it is kind of a long story.

About 3 weeks ago, I upgraded from a 4th Gen Intel to a Ryzen 5 platform, so, everything 'was' fine, but soon I realized about this strange behaviour, the computer freezes for about 20-30 seconds constantly. Making some research, I realized that was causing the freeze was a 100% disk usage of the main SSD, I did some research, tried a lot of things, between them: installed a registry file for optimization of SSD's, changed the energy plan to 'max performance', stopped the HDD turning off, reinstalled Windows, reinstalled to a previous version, disabled XMP, nothing worked.

So, after all that, I thought 'well, maybe that old SSD is dying, it's pretty old' (around 5 years) so, taking advantage of my new platform, I ordered a new fancy Nvme PCI-E (from overseas). So, I thought that was it and I was destined to wait for the new ssd to arrive, meanwhile, I tried to get used to this thing. This 100% HDD Usage happens sometimes very often, sometimes once per hour, it's pretty random, it doesn't freeze apps running in other disks tho, for example, when I play a game, they don't freeze (maybe because I have another SSD for games) but if you do something, for example, open Start Menu when this thing is happening, it freezes the whole system, in youtube, you can keep watching the videos up until the point where the video has 'already downloaded', in Netflix, the same. In short, while this happens if you want to read or write in the main disk, the whole computer freezes, if you do nothing, you don't even notice.

I checked the processes, and there's nothing fishy in there, even when it freezes, nothing out of the ordinary. I had a similar problem with another HDD (Mechanical) in the PC from work, and one day the disk just died without any warning, I thought 'well, it's dying so let's replace it' and here I was waiting for the parcel to arrive, which should be this week.

BUT... Here comes the fun part. I work as Sysadmin and this whole time my job as been closed, so, now there's something like a rumour about returning and my boss asked me for some files I have in a small server I mounted, so, I wanted to do things right, so I installed Manjaro, created a small partition and started doing my thing, and here's the thing, in Linux, the freezes don't happen. I've been using Linux for the past 6 hours, I did my Job, some other things, Installed programs, and it didin't happen once. It's definetly a software related issue with Windows. The PC is exactly the same, I haven't touched the hardware.

So I came here looking for help, because when my new SSD arrives, the chances of that thing keep happening are really high, and it is pretty annoying when I'm doing anything else that is not gaming. My specs are:

    Ryzen 5 2600
    Asrock B450 Steel Legend
16gb of Ram 3000mhz (was running them at 3466Mhz but I though that was the problem)
    GeForce GTX 1070 Ti
    2 SSD's and 2 HDD's

As for right now, running Windows 10 1909 (originally installed 2004 and that's when I rolled back to 1909).

    So... Any ideas?

  2. The Random Freeze

I have had no freezing problems or 100% disk drive usage since I increased the size of my virtual page pool. I have a 10 GB HP PC and I set the initial limit to 10 GB and the high limit to 32 GB. Freezing problems have gone away. I suggest that anyone having a Windows 10 freezing problem check this simple to do change. Do not let Windows manage the paging pool automatically. The 100% disk usage is being caused by Windows dumping memory to the disk and trying to fit it into too small a virtual space.

    Windows 10 100% disk usage

    Hello

I have a laptop running Windows 10 Pro. A few weeks ago due to an accident, my laptop hard a hard crash and afterwards, Windows 10 started to get very slow, frequent crashes, freezing, programs not opening etc. Though I was able to fix Windows 10 by running
chkdsk, DISM and sfc /scannow multiple times, the problem is that my laptop is still very slow and freezes frequently as before and in Task Manager, the disk usage is always at 100%, even if I am not running any programs. I have tried all listed ways on internet
such as - disabling windows search, disabling superfetch, malware scan etc and the problem persists. This problem also happens in clean and safe boot. Upon running chkdsk, it shows 876 kb in bad sectors. I suspect that my HDD has probably gone bad due to the
impact. Please suggest some solutions to resolve 100% disk usage problem.

Random 100% usage and recurrent freezes on Windows 10

Random freezes / 100% disk usage on win10

    Hello everybody,

so recently I have been getting trouble with some random freezes on my pc. The first thing I noticed when I took a look into the task manager was the usual disk usage of 1-2% spiked up to 100% for about 5-15 seconds. Usually this happens every 3-15 minutes. During this time the pc froze almost completely. The affected disk is my C:\ SSD and it is also the one I have installed windows on.

I have already updated windows multiple times, followed some guides on "100% disk usage", which reccommend disabling certain services such as superfetch or the windows search function. I also stumbled upon this windows performance analyzer tool, which I thought could be helpful (I included some screenshots).

I really have no clue where to look, or if there even is a way to fix it. If you need any additional info, I will be happy to answer.
    Thanks in advance
