Windows 10: random appdata jpgs with no thumbnail

Discus and support random appdata jpgs with no thumbnail in Windows 10 Ask Insider to solve the problem; i typed in jpg in my file explorer and there are loads of jpgs with the default icon (a blue picture on a white rectangle) and they just have gibberish...     random appdata jpgs with no thumbnail


    i typed in jpg in my file explorer and there are loads of jpgs with the default icon (a blue picture on a white rectangle) and they just have gibberish names, some are called things like img_101 though, and it says they’re in appdata? some were even made as recently as today and they say they take up 0 bytes, some are also said to be kept in WinSxS amd64, can someone explain what this is?

    Hi!

    Thanks for the suggestion.

    I have tried it, and even updated my Windows 10, but sadly, still the same issue.

    It loads the thumbnail, but disappears within 0.5seconds for all .JPG file; I can see thumbnails for .jpg files.

    • Were there any changes to your computer prior to the issue?

    I updated Windows to 1709

    • Can you send us the screenshot of the File Explorer showing your .jpg files?

    Here it is (just to be more accurate, thumbnails of the JPG appear 1 sec then disappear):

    • Does it happen all the files that are in your File Explorer?

    Yes

    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

    Tried all the things related to explorer itself (thumbnails instead of icons etc)

    I also wanted to delete the thumbnails cache but, even in safe mode, I did not succeed...

    PS : I tried something strange. I have 2 .jpg that are correctly displayed as thumbnails in Explorer.

    I renamed one of them into .JPG. When Windows saves the files, it is automatically renamed into .jpg but is not displayed as a thumbnail! Then, I renamed it back to .jpg and hop! It comes back as a thumbnail!!!

    Thank you for the suggestions.

    Unfortunately, I have followed all your steps but the thumbnails still do not appear.

    This is really frustrating since I can see the thumbnail for a split second before it reverts to the default photo icon.
