Windows 10: Random black screen and restart, bugcheck 0x0000116 in event viewer

I'm going to update my BIOS to the latest iteration, which I believe is the P10 revision as posted here: EVGA Download Center
but I'm sure it's already updated to it, but can't hurt no?

 

If it's already at the latest version i don't think it will hurt.

 

OK, flash was successful, a little bit scary lol, never heard my motherboard make that type of noise before, but it all went fine apart from it said checksum error on first load, and floppy failed, but that's because I don't have a floppy drive, so removed it from the drive list in the BIOS and set the boot priorities to normal, seemed OK after, booted a little faster than normal so lets see *Biggrin

 

That's good, so how is the BSOD situation going?

 

I had it with the pre-release of windows 10 (DP) and reverted back to windows 7, been using that and decided to give it another stab after updates had rolled out, upgraded again last night and no luck, fresh clean format and re-install last night and the issues were still there, so pretty much since I posted last night, it's not as frequent today but I think that's down to the delay on GPU recovery I put on it before bed last night.

It's a damn shame if I can't fix it though, i'll have to revert back again to 7 if it does, but I have no issues on my Acer tablet with win10 and that's got a poor set of stats on that thing, atom 1.3ghz and 1gb of ram lol

 

Also, i've not actually had a BSOD, it's just a black screen and it boots itself up again, no errors on screen, it's like the GPU decided that it didn't want to work anymore and told the PC to hard reset itself....

 

My guess now would be that it's a failing GPU.

 

that's always a possibility, but why wait until windows 10 to fail? never, ever had that issue on win7.

 

I have no idea, but can you test a friends GPU?

 

Not got access to anyone with a dedicated GPU unfortunately, I'll see how this goes anyway, it's not crashed since updating the BIOS, fingers crossed.

 

I may have just had an idea of why it keeps crashing, whenever it crashes, it's either when I'm watching a video online (YouTube etc....) or playing a game using a pad, so there's no direct input from the keyboard or mouse, is it possible that the screensaver or monitor switch off is causing it to crash and it can't recover, it's just went blank and managed to recover as I wasn't listening to something online or anything, so I'm thinking it might be that, it's reminiscent of that action (black screen when monitor goes into power saving), I've just turned it off just to be on the safe side.

 

1 Hour, 32 minutes and counting, no crashes yet *Biggrin

 

sigh, it crashed about 20 minutes ago and got stuck in a reboot loop, sounds like it's similar to other peoples experience with TDR *Sad

 

Nooooooo! Well now i'm almost certain that the GPU is going down.

 

ok update time, I googled like no tomorrow in anticipation for an answer, found a possible fix which is actually working out really well, upto now I've been watching loads of videos on youtube and still no crash, all I did was disable the realtek audio drivers in device manager and all seems well.
