    Random BSOD with ntoskernel.exe+158ca9

Hi, sorry, totally new to this, so I'll try my best not to mess up! *Wink I've experiencing very random BSOD's ever since I upgraded to Windows 10 & updated some chipset, video, audio drivers, etc. It happens VERY randomly (although my pc isn't always on). Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, in system specs I put ASUS as my motherboard. More specifically, it's an ASUS Rampage IV Black Edition.

    :)

Various BSoD Errors After New System Build

I have been experiencing various BSoD errors after recently building a new PC. The errors themselves are varied but most seem to be related to 'ntoskernel.exe.' I am wondering if someone can help me interpret these minidump files as I am stumped at the moment.

    DMPs – Google Drive

    (link to minidump archive)

    Things to note:

-I have tried running memtest (three passes over 5 hours) and it returned no errors.

-I did the sfc/scannow thing (no errors)

-The BSoDs seem to happen at random times. I've experienced them while starting up the computer, installing a game, watching a video. One even happened in sleep mode.

-The errors are infrequent (maybe once a day), but they are frequent enough to be an issue.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

  3. ntoskrnl.exe+1640e0 BSOD error

So far, with one memory chip no BSOD. But, getting a BSOD would be random and infrequent.

I've went through that article in the past and still have gotten BSOD.

    Hi richway,

    Welcome to the 10forums.

Please remove ASUS software, it is known for causing BSOD's and uses old drivers.

If you are using a program like Ccleaner please stop using it while troubleshooting.
This because programs like Ccleaner remove dump files that are needed to troubleshoot.
Or configure Ccleaner to not remove dump files:

If you have overclocked anything, revert back to stock while troubleshooting as it may cause stability problems.

Unfortunately, there is only 1 dump file saved which doesn't contain much.
I strongly recommend to check your installed software for updates as far as possible.

As you have upgraded your installation, it is an option to perform a clean install.
When you upgrade, there is another Windows version installed on top of another Windows version, this might cause problems.

Hi, axe0, thanks for the response! As soon as I get the chance, I'll try the recommended fixes & post the results. I just wonder why the ASUS software worked fine in 8.1 then wouldn't cooperate in 10 (if that is the problem). In any case., I should post some results by the end of the weekend. Thanks again!

Windows 8 and Windows 10 are different systems, if it works for one then there is no garantee it works for the other too.
