npsvctrig and FileCrypt cause Windows to freeze until I reboot

    Hey guys,

Since about a year ago, my computer has suffered random freezes without warning, and each time the only way out is restarting the laptop by holding the power button for a few seconds. That means no BSOD. I checked for memory dumps in C:\Windows and there's
nothing even though I made sure they were activated (I tried Small memory dump, Complete, and Automatic, nothing file was ever created).

My PC currently is equipped with Windows 10 Pro Version 1909 OS build 18363.592, i7-6700HQ cpu, an Nvidia Geforce GTX 960M, 8GB of RAM.

Though it is not apparent to me why this is happening, I have found in the event viewer that the same series of events occur in the lead up to the crash (checked the last 4 crashes). From newest to oldest event, all within 4 seconds before the crash every
    time:

    • File System Filter 'npsvctrig' (10.0, ‎1977‎-‎09‎-‎12T16:19:34.000000000Z) has successfully loaded and registered with Filter Manager.
    • File System Filter 'FileCrypt' (10.0, ‎2011‎-‎10‎-‎30T16:56:49.000000000Z) has successfully loaded and registered with Filter Manager.
    • Volume C: (\Device\HarddiskVolume3) is healthy. No action is needed.
    • File System Filter 'mfehidk' (0.0, ‎2019‎-‎08‎-‎16T14:36:39.000000000Z) has successfully loaded and registered with Filter Manager.
    • File System Filter 'Wof' (10.0, ‎2096‎-‎10‎-‎27T14:24:16.000000000Z) has successfully loaded and registered with Filter Manager.
    • File System Filter 'FileInfo' (10.0, ‎1989‎-‎07‎-‎13T02:15:12.000000000Z) has successfully loaded and registered with Filter Manager.
    • The leap second configuration has been updated.

Reason: Leap second data initialized from registry during boot
    • Leap seconds enabled: true

      New leap second count: 0

      Old leap second count: 0
    • The firmware reported boot metrics.
    • The boot type was 0x0.
    • The boot menu policy was 0x1.
    • The last shutdown's success status was false. The last boot's success status was true.
    • The bootmgr spent 0 ms waiting for user input.
    • There are 0x1 boot options on this system.
    • Virtualization-based security (policies: 0) is disabled.
    • The operating system started at system time ‎2020‎-‎01‎-‎12T20:31:55.500000000Z.
After this last event , there is an Event ID 41 with the message "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Does anybody know what exactly is happening with each of these and knows how to fix it?

I have done a little troubleshooting myself and I'm lost.

4 days ago I wiped my HDD without windows, and reset Windows on the SSD thanks to the reset tool in settings.

Since then I have updated the BIOS and almost all drivers I could find from ASUS (manufacturer) except bluetooth because I can't get it to update.

No Windows updates left to do.

Fastboot is deactivated, both on Windows and in my BIOS.

I ran memtest86+ a few months ago and nothing to report.

I ran a full scan with sfc /scannow, nothing to report.

I tried Windows debloater because some guy said it worked for him on a forum, I had a crash a few hours after.

Anyone has a clue on what I could try ?

Thank you very much in advance

  3. PC randomly freezing

Hi, my PC is freezing and I get no error message. Right before it happens, these two events happen:

    • File System Filter 'FileCrypt' (10.0, ‎2013‎-‎05‎-‎08T12:49:03.000000000Z) has successfully loaded and registered with Filter Manager.
    • File System Filter 'npsvctrig' (10.0, ‎2070‎-‎05‎-‎05T14:38:28.000000000Z) has successfully loaded and registered with Filter Manager.

It also freezes when I am turning off/restarting my computer, just before the computer shuts fully down.

    Anyone have any idea? Thanks

Random BSODs (Event41) right after FileCrypt and npsvctrig loaded with Filter Manager.

    Random BSOD while browsing internet

BitDefender is nothing special. mwac.sys causes BSODs anywhere.
A tiny documentation can be found here: Solved Random BSODs - Windows 10 Forums
In that very thread, the suggested action apparently worked.

The storage and network filters of any third party antivirus can cause BSODs. Neither MBAM nor BitDefender is any special. For a regular antivirus, it may be shifted to an alternative; but MBAM has no alternative. So a clean install of the said program is the most feasible first step.
As far as the first step is not failing, it is better to not think for the second step. Because the BSODs are not universal, failure at the first step is not universal; and success at the second step is also not universal.
That is why I posted that my suggestion may work, or may not. Let us see where it goes.
